It is concluded from the results that having near-death experiences relates to one having an increase in daily spiritual experiences from the measurements of the Daily Spiritual Experience Scale. The strength of the intensity in spirituality was affected by the severity of the near-death experience. The intensity of daily spiritual activities was greater when individuals had a severe near-death experience rather than if the experience was moderate. The experiencers found a new gratefulness for life, a new sense of purpose, higher confidence levels, and more elasticity in dealing with stress (Khanna & Greyson, 2014). Despite the results, there is a possibility that more daily spiritual experiences are not related to near-death experiences directly
The video Round Trip, The Near Death Experience is an interesting and informative documentary. Five people were interviewed about their near death experience. Catherine was sick for several years; John almost drown from scuba diving, Mary had complications during childbirth, Alena was in an accident and Allan’s heart flutter during surgery. These five people near dead experience were similar. It is remarkable to hear them speak about their experience and how they are not afraid of death. The near death experience changed their lives. Catherine stated that she sees the future, she will know about something before it happens; also her religious structure became stronger. They all saw a bright light and experience a divine feeling and the power
Religion is fraught with stories and myths of otherworldly journeys. There are a variety of reasons; however, the two main ones one may notice are humans’ innate pattern recognition, and our necessity to define and understand the world in which we live. These otherworldly excursions, out-of-body-experiences OBEs, near-death-experiences NDEs, and altered-states-of-consciousness ASCs are side effects of trauma rather than real experiences. In this paper ASC will be the basic reference unless otherwise noted. Therefore, it is prudent to explore those examples of forced ASCs, the causes, and the impacts on the society. An ASC experience within a religion may serve an important purpose in the belief system, yet it is a personal experience of the mind and not a legitimate experience in the real world.
Life After Life, by Raymond A Moody Jr, M.D., is an account of Dr. Moody’s research of near death experiences (NDE). Dr. Moody has a Ph.D. in philosophy and a medical degree. This scientific discipline provided a path for him to document his findings. His intent was to draw attention to a phenomenon of NDE. He accounts it was “very widespread and very well-hidden, and at the same time, help create a more receptive public attitude toward it” (Moody Jr, MD, 2015, p. xix). As the modern Western world moved into the twentieth century, so did the scientific discipline of medical science. This allowed a transition of individuals dying at home, to dying within the confines of the hospital under the care of medical professionals. He interviewed

One question that arises is vital and it is do we become more secure in our certainty approaching death or less. Judging from his notes during the final days individuals start to challenge and question human understanding. Soon promoting open discussion on even the most trivial questions.
The research I will refer to uses a very specific parameter for people to be used in the studies. They are near death when they are clinically dead, have no heartbeat, are not breathing, or they are so physically compromised that they will die if their condition does not improve. Often they are unconscious at this point. Their experience has to occur at this point of near-death and it must be lucid and not fragmented memories. All of these conditions must be met in order for the experience to be considered a true near-death experience. Although everyone’s experience is different, there are twelve elements that occur during a near-death experience. Not all of them occur in each experience, but those that do occur generally happen in the order I will describe them. (Long and Perry, 2011, 5-6)
Although the meaning of a Near Death Experience is different to the individual, it is described to be a personal encounter with death, later being brought back to life. The man responsible for triggering the later studies of this perplexing subject is Dr. Raymond Moody. During the year of 1975, he published a book, Life After Life, explaining his newfound concept of a Near Death Experience. He heard about a specific case study that extremely intrigued him. “As a student, Raymond Moody heard about the experience of a psychiatrist who had ‘died’ from double pneumonia only recovering after his doctor had pronounced him dead to his family.'; This remarkable case stunned Raymond Moody, and after publishing his book, this case intrigued society. This particular psychiatrist went on to write about his Near Death Experience, but Dr. Moody was the first to research this unknown topic.

The subject of death and dying can cause many controversies for health care providers. Not only can it cause legal issues for them, but it also brings about many ethical issues as well. Nearly every health care professional has experienced a situation dealing with death or dying. This tends to be a tough topic for many people, so health care professionals should take caution when handling these matters. Healthcare professionals not only deal with patient issues but also those of the family. Some of the controversies of death and dying many include; stages of death and dying, quality of life issues, use of medications and advanced directives.
When thinking of death, often one thinks of what might wait for them in any sort of afterlife they have come to believe in, or perhaps they envision not what they experience, but what their loved ones are left to feel after their passing. Less often does one pause to ponder what occurs between the moment of death and the burial of the body. The prevailing theory seems to be that within this time between “moving on” and death the spirit leaves the body and, while it may linger for a moment, the spirit quickly continues on to fulfill its existential desire. The few who have attempted to speculate about the body itself have never formed a theory in which the body is in a happy state. Often it is described as being afraid or alone, left to itself

Evidence has been found that has linked the connection between religion and spirituality and health. Pargament (2013) states that “many groups dealing with major life stressors such as natural disaster, illness, loss of loved ones, divorce, and serious mental illness” has shown that religion and spirituality are helpful to use as a type of coping technique. It is especially useful for people who have fewer resources and those who face problems that are more likely to be uncontrolled. However, the reasons for these associations are unclear. The essential question then becomes “what is it about religion and spirituality that accounts for their lin...
In the field of psychology arguments have to be built on an empirical scientific evidence basis, and personal spiritual experiences cannot be used as evidence for any scientific argument. However; the field of theology studies the general trends and tendencies of personal spiritual experiences, and combines them together to form general religious and spiritual patterns. In his book Introduction to religion From inside and Outside Ellwood elaborates on “Transcendence” as a core of the definition of religion, and religion with respect to transcendent experience is “ultimately a practical kind of consciousness” (Ellwood 1998:41). I was very excited to take Death and Dying as a college level course. Firstly, because I have always had a huge interest in death, but it coincides with a fear surrounding it. I love the opportunity to write this paper because I can delve into my own experiences and beliefs around death and dying and perhaps really establish a clear personal perspective and how I can relate to others in a professional setting.
