Being invited to apply for a membership in the Henry O. Holley chapter of the National Honors society is a privilege and an opportunity to be a part of such a significant group of people. For years now it has been my goal to become a member in the National Honors Society for many reasons. Taking leadership and improving my leadership skills is a large part of my life and I believe becoming a member of the National Honors Society would improve and refine my leadership skills. Character is described as the mental and moral qualities of the individual. There are many examples that prove I have outstanding character. Throughout my whole high school career, I don’t have any detentions (Saturday or office) or any suspensions. Another quality that is essential to outstanding character is respect. In the classroom, respect for the teachers and others is one of my top priorities. Not only leadership inside of school but also outside of school in the community or at home. In school I hold the position of class president and it is something enjoy very much. Out of school, I was recently named Captain (with 2 other captains) of our Varsity Soccer team for my senior year. Last summer I was also selected to attend a youth leadership convention with one of my classmates at Springfield College with students from many different schools. From there, twelve students out of about one hundred and thirty students were chosen to attend the World Affairs seminar in Wisconsin and I was one of those twelve chosen. The seminar aims to shape our nation’s future leaders, which is something that interests me very much. John C. Maxwell once said, “a leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way.” What he means by this is that leaders lead from the front, not the back and that couldn’t explain the National Honor Society any better. Leadership is something the National Honor Society prides itself upon, and being a leader to others is something that I also take much pride
