1 out of 16 American people have had or have a Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for admiration and a lack of empathy for others. The present study scientists are now using “cross-temporal meta-analysis to examine changes in scores on the NPI (narcissistic personality inventory)”. In this article they also focus on traits that narcissist have some are attention seeking, lash out with aggression, and have no real emotionally intimate bonds with others. Studies have shown that narcissistic traits are going to increase with the next generations. The studies in this article are done on college students. A study in 1950 asked a group of teenagers did they agree with the statement “I am an important person”(Newsom, Archer, Trumbetta, & Gottesman, 2003) only 12% had agreed while in 1980 80% percent of teenagers agreed with that statement. I agree we this statement but I do not think it makes me a narcissist because I believe in my self-esteem. How The NPI works by examining correlations between mean scores and year of data collection.
