Blake Mycoskie is a man who has seemingly done everything. He has started many different organizations, and accomplished many things in his 40 years. Mycoskie is an entrepreneur, and an accomplished leader. He has passion for all that he does, and always works with a purpose, usually with the well-being of others in mind. Mycoskie has started many businesses, but what I know him for is starting the TOMs organization. This organization sells shoes and eyeglasses, and for each pair bought of either, a pair shoes or eye care (surgery, sight-saving treatment, prescription glasses) is sent to a child in need, in a third world country. In this case, the problem is lack of proper footwear for children around the world. To me, Mycoskie is a great model entrepreneur, he is innovative, creative, and works with passion and expertise. Kawasaki advises entrepreneurs to “Keep it Simple”, when looking at any website addressing TOMs, the description is short, sweet, and easily understandable. This is another reason I think that Mycoskie is a great model, he understands and takes into action many “principles” of entrepreneurship that others advise. For Mycoskie to have ventured out and started all of his different organizations, and for them to all have been as successful as they were, he definitely had a few of said characteristics. A big example of responsibility comes from a statement Mycoskie made, after selecting a new CEO for the company, “…My strengths are definitely in telling our stories, getting people excited about our mission… and now I can focus all of my time on that because now I don’t have the responsibilities of being a CEO”. That statement shows that Mycoskie took responsibility in knowing that his strengths were not in being CEO, but in working with others within the organization.
There are endless ways to explain why I believe Blake Mycoskie is an entrepreneur. He’s innovative, passionate about his work, and a great model. The work that he has done is done with meaning, and not done simply to just have done something. He is a man of what I would call, great success, and what he has done deserves endless acknowledgement. He is a man of passion and hard work, all with the well-being of others in
