My Volunteering Journey

1. Please describe any previous community service you have been involved in and what you have obtained from volunteering. I have volunteered at quite a few organizations in Philadelphia including American Red Cross Club, SHARE Food Program, and Chosen 300. While volunteering for the American Red Cross, I was given the opportunity to spearhead fundraisers for blood drives and victims of natural disasters. Never the less, other goals included raising donations of food and clothing for families in need around the North Philadelphia area as well as wrapping gifts during the holiday for disadvantaged families. While at SHARE Food program and Chosen 300, I packed and distributed food to the homeless, including adults and children and participated …show more content…

I aspire to do the same in the New Haven area by becoming more active during the upcoming years of enrollment at University of New Haven. I have very clear interests in serving the public to not only help out for a short amount of time but, I also want to foster relationships, learn, and grow with whomever I may encounter. I possess strong work ethic, organization skills, and a love for teambuilding. Ultimately, I will always devote my best efforts into any project I am working on. My greatest hope for this program is to gain even more experience and be able to use skills obtained from being involved, back home in my community. I also look forward to participating in positive social interactions with people from different backgrounds to build long-lasting friendships and relationships with not only my group but also people living in this community. Our love for helping others will eventually bring us together and our differences are what will make us even stronger. My greatest fear about being a participant is not being able to fulfill the needs of the community in such a short amount of time. Even after the week is over, I hope to still be able to stay connected and stay consistent in the program I am placed.
