Homework is an integral part of education. Yet, there are many students who feel overwhelmed by the amount of homework required of them. I am writing this letter to explain my philosophy of homework and stress its part in the education process. In addition, I will explain what the policy of homework is for your student's U.S. History class and why it is important that all homework assignments are completed, and submitted on time.
As you know, we live in a very competitive period in the history of the world. Business leaders expect students to know more than ever before. Whatever form it takes, student practice at home is important to the success of high school students. Studies have shown that homework is most beneficial when it involves the practice of a previously learned skill.
In addition, I expect all students will successfully complete each homework assignment and submit it on time. Late work receives half of the credit earned. Students are encouraged to develop the habit of studying every night. Work habits developed in high school carry through to the next levels of schooling. A successful college student recognizes that he/she must set time aside every night to complete assignments. One of the goals of homework is to develop good habits that can make the transition to the next level of schooling an easy adjustment.
In closing, I want to reiterate that homework is an important piece in your student's education. It allows for additional practice of skills introduced and taught during school hours.
