My previous experience in counseling encompassed three different aspects. The first is Decision Counseling which involves leading individuals in giving their lives to Christ. Next, Commissioned Lay Counseling assists in leading individuals to view life issues from a Christ-centered perspective. Lastly, Coaching consists of leading individuals to have a different view on past negative life experiences. Functioning in all three capacities has shown me the need others have for understanding and coping with difficult issues and has also shaped my desire to further my education and better equip myself with the knowledge needed to help the hurting and the lost. If there is a new or different concept, then I want to learn it. If there is a training that pertains to my field of study I plan to participate. Learning is one of my deepest passions. My Spirituality is another key asset that I take great pride in. I position myself daily to remain spiritually in-tune to God. There are times when I can’t seem to hear His voice, but I do not allow that to discourage me because I do trust His plan for my life. My last asset is hope. I have hope. Becoming a Pastoral Community Care Counselor has always been one of my long-term goals; hence my desire to pursue counseling at the doctoral level. This is not a time in my life that I personally sought out, but has been divinely appointed by God. His timing is matchless, and I have no hesitations or reservations about this being His will for my life at this appointed time. This degree will help manifest my dreams for becoming a counselor and display why I am drawn to the family population especially. I have personally experienced what a family breakdown can do and feel that this is an opportunity to make a difference in the restructuring of family values according to the word of God.
