Cornflakes, dynamite, and penicillin, like my passion for data analytics were discovered by accident. I fell into data analytics while working for a very small non-profit organization. The questions posed to me were; what do we do with all of this information we have? How do we turn our client and donor data into actionable items and dollars for the organization? How do we show the positive impact we are having on the community? After some research, I presented my solution. We analyze the data. We take the information we have, apply statistical modeling, and present it back to our donors and other funding organizations to prove that we are worth their investment. Thus began my love affair with data analytics.

Attending full time was made easier when colleges began offering online curriculum. Still, obtaining my undergraduate degree was not a walk in the park. While studying for my undergraduate degree I experienced many personal trials that could have had an extremely negative effect on my grades. My mom was diagnosed at the age of 92 with stage four metastatic colon and stomach cancer. I became her primary caregiver and legal guardian. We had four young children at home, ranging in age from one to eight years old, that needed their mother and my spouse was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Again, I continued my schooling as time and money would allow. There were times when I didn’t think I had it in me to continue. An advanced degree was my dream since elementary school but, I knew I’d probably never see graduation day. The day I graduated with my undergrad was emotional, exciting, and surreal. It was one of the worst storms we had seen in years. There I was among my fellow graduates huddled in the parking garage of the UIC Pavilion waiting for the Grand March to begin. My family and friends both old and new were there to see me walk across that stage. They were all so proud of me. I was so proud of me. I was one step closer to my
