My Leadership Philosophy

I believe having confidence is an essential leadership quality to have. It provides for assured decision making and allows others to be confident too. Believing in yourself foremost sets a strong foundation to be an excellent leader. Norman Vincent Peale once said, “Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy”. This in particular sticks out to me due to the fact that it is so applicable to my life. It is not something obtained overnight. Because I strive to be someone who can confidently lead others, I must be patient. I can learn to be more trustful in myself and my abilities to better develop my confidence as a leader. Instead of being hesitant toward putting myself out there, I can trust myself that I am just as important as any other member of the band and I should not be afraid to contribute something that can help just one person, or even the entire band. In addition, I should avoid comparing myself to others. My belief in myself will only worsen if I believe that others would be better qualified than me by having qualities such as confidence. I can stop asking others for their opinion and using it entirely to make decisions. For example, if I don’t know what to do regarding the members of my section, I can confidently make my own decision instead of complaining to a friend and asking what to do. If I make more decisions on my own, I will strengthen my self-confidence as a leader and boost my decision making skills. Leaders often have to make quick choices, and I want to be able to maintain those
