My Ideal Self
Who/what do you want to achieve/have, why?
In the shorter term (3 years), I want to graduate from HELP University’s Degree of Psychology in first-class honours. I understand many people claim that such academic achievement is just a graduation certificate, and does not guarantee any work opportunity. However, my aim does not stem from obtaining work opportunities or anything materialistic; I just want to appreciate and take every learning opportunity seriously, since I view this process as a foundation for my knowledge and abilities in the future. Besides, I have been anticipating this stage for a long time, in which I can have deeper and more professional knowledge in this field. This is the first semester of my first year and I am still trying to cope with the classes. Since I am unsure of the assessment standards, I feel a bit pressured. But soon, I will get to know as assignment submission and examinations have begun.
To achieve my academic goals, I have to maintain a good understanding of the syllabus and results in my studies by keeping up with the schedule as well as preventing procrastination. In addition, I have to view this learning process as the journey of equipping knowledge, unlike my view for the high school examinations, merely memorising and studying for 10As.
As for striving for my career goals, I have to improve my soft-skills which are often emphasized in today’s workplace besides pure academic performance. Hence, I will push myself to join different activities that increases my experience. In the next semester, I plan to work as a part-timer to gain experience and earn some living expenses. I did not start this semester because my parents are against me working. From their viewpoint, students should focus on studies. After studying hard for this semester, I hope to discuss with my parents of having a part-time job with prove that I can cope with the studies now after a semester. If they agree, I will also keep in mind to maintain my academic results, so that I will not let myself and my parents
