I, Kapil Aggarwal, a final year student doing Bachelor of Technology in Pulp and Paper Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India. In this essay I am going to focus on the incentives that stimulate me to pursue further studies and the motives behind my choice of University of Warwick as well as my future career objectives.
I am at the crossroads of life where I have to take a major decision which will shape my future. For me, to shift from engineering to economics and to pursue an advanced study in United Kingdom is both a challenge and an opportunity. I have chosen economics as my field of study because it is full of new ideas and at the same time it requires a strong mathematical background and analytical skills. I have sound credentials in mathematics that will enable me to excel in this field of study. The real life implications of this subject also give me great motivation to go for economics. A unique blend of experiences, ranging from teamwork-oriented activities to leadership responsibilities have helped in greatly improving my interpersonal skills. I take pride in my willingness to participate in various activities since my school days. At IIT Roorkee, I was involved in EDU–SLUM National Social Services wing as an active member and organized two special camps (Blood Donation and Polio Awareness). I have displayed leadership in tasks like the Largest Foot-Painting record that our campus is credited for and organizing the Industrial tour for our branch. I consider myself an effective communicator and have worked hard on my ability to resolve disputes within the team efficiently and fairly.
