Throughout my experience with JROTC, one of my skills have definitely increased in some areas. One of these areas is time management. Time management is important because it helps you manage your time from work, to school, and to your personal life. I think I increased my time management from making goals on when I am going to do something. An example is, when I have homework due but I have to do chores or something else, I put aside things that aren’t important. Whenever something comes up unexpected, I mentally put a plan in my head that tells me what time I should finish things and start things. As a freshman here at Arizona State University, the biggest challenge I had to face was time management. I was having a hard time managing homework, studying, and social activities. I was working on assignments last minute which caused me to be stress. Talking to my success career coach Kendall Cody she advised me to make or buy a calendar and write down when my assignments where due. Toward the end of the semester I took her advice and saw a huge difference in the way I was organizing my time. I was able to turn in tasks a day before the actually due date and stay on track with all my classes.
There are many ways to improve managing your time wisely and be accountable for it. The first step of improving your time wisely is to have a good rest the day before. By doing this you will have enough energy to last you the next following day. Also, sleeping late is not a good way of time management. Looking at my own approach to time management I have noticed that I am well organised and good at prioritising tasks and jobs. When I log onto my computer to start my shift I am sent down numerous jobs, each job is different and has different deadlines for attendance and completion. I plan my day based around the date and time deadlines of the jobs and also the locations of the jobs. I then schedule the most effective order of completing the jobs, putting high priority jobs at the top of my list and grouping sites that are geographically close to each other. Army life can be very challenging and a life changing experience. It was very challenging and life changing for me. I was raised by my Grandparents they did everything for me so this was a wakeup call for me on life. An independent person was not I, so I had problems with the changes about to come. Army life is constantly demanding and constantly changing without notice. Although the travel was exciting, army life for me was very challenging because I had to learn to adapt to a new system, to share my life with other soldiers, and to give up many of the comforts of home.
