Introduction
I would like to be a social worker for the same reason most people do: The desire to help people. I think that service to others is the most satisfying work that someone can do, and I cannot think of anything else I would rather do. I find that assisting other people makes me feel more included in my community and always leads me to having a more positive mentality. I want to be able to contribute to society as tangibly and broadly as possible. In fact, I have had a hard time narrowing down the specific field and population to focus my career on because I would like to help everyone.

Sexism is prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination on the basis of sex (Kirst-Ashman & Hull, 2014). Specifically, women tend to experience sexism in disproportionate numbers. It is a well-documented fact that women on average earn significantly less than their male counter-parts (Zastro & Kirst-Ashman, 2013). They are often passed over for raises and promotions because of an antiquated notion that men are the “bread winners”. This is often difficult to prove, however, because discussing salaries is usually considered taboo. Classism is prejudice against or in favor of people belonging to a particular social class (Kirst-Ashman & Hull, 2014). Despite the fact that I will hopefully be working for a 501(c)3 somewhere, there are various supports that a workplace can utilize to help employees who may be impoverished for whatever reason. Examples of these include free childcare for those who cannot afford it or programs that offer qualified convicts a job. These programs can even be beneficial to the employer for reasons other than promoting social equality because they can offer significant tax
