Music Needs to be Used More in Schools
Music plays a large part in many peoples every day lives, no matter what race or age you are. While music does play a large part in our lives, in schools it can be somewhat controversial. Music is so beneficial to our body and minds but some people don’t believe this and believe that music, aside from exploratory classes like choir and band, should be banned in schools. For some people music is an escape from reality and a way to get rid of stress, with the stress that students are put under in schools, music should be more widely accepted. Not only as a class, but also as a form of therapy and healing to the mind and body.

According to a study done at John Hopkins School of Education, when music is used in a classroom the music helps to reduce anxiety and stress on both teachers and students, help students to concentrate, and improves a students ability to process the English language. Music will also help to promote craftsmanship and help bring some introverted students into groups with similar interests. Some people might say that there is no need to improve on things like concentration and reducing anxiety but there are many benefits to just improving on those things. Along with learning benefits, music also brings with it many social benefits. When a student joins an ensemble or a large scale orchestra, the student will learn how to work with others and how to communicate better with others. The student will also learn how to self discipline and will gain more confidence and self esteem. It is empowering to everyone to learn that their success comes from not others but actually lays in their own hands. The severity of learning music isn’t just crucial to students in middle school and high school, in preschool music education is important as it is the time during which a child’s brain is developing and supports growth during this crucial time.
