The Muckleshoot are a Native American tribe are a part of the Coast Salish people. their territory can be found located in Washington. They are recognized as the Muckleshoot Tribe, they are composed of generations of different tribal groups who inherited Puget Sound areas and occupied river drainages from the rivers confluence in Auburn to their reservations in the Cascades. HISTORY Native population The Muckleshoot Indian Tribe has a membership that mostly consists of descendants of the Duwamish and Puyallup people. The tribe also consists of Skopamish, Stkamish, Yilalkoamish, Tkwakwamish, Smulkamish, and the Buklshuhl. They inhabited the Central Puget Sound for many years before the reservation. There was a section of my tribe that moved to Moosehead Lake, They were popularly known as Moosehead Lake Indians. The Penobscot Indians of this tribe always encountered navigators before the middle of the 17th century. My tribe was often visited by French navigators and fishermen from the Great Bank and that they built there before 1555 a fort or settlement. When more thorough exploration began in the 17th century my Penobscot chief, known as Bashaba (a term probably equivalent to head-chief), seems to have had primacy over all the New England tribes southward to the Merrimac. After the war my tribe joined our emigrant tribesmen in Canada, and they now constitute the only important body of Indians remaining in New England excepting the Passamaquoddy. My tribes count in numbers estimates within the present century give them from 300 to 400 souls. They now number about 410.
First of all, the Pomo tribe was located in North central California. Another example, the Pomo tribe lived in places that depended on the climate not too hot, not too cold. Pomo tribe lived in small communities of different types. One community was said to have 20 chiefs at a time and the head men lived in one main village. The mosh is an awesome place in Downtown Jacksonville; where everyone can learn some interesting facts about our city, how the body works , what animals are in the ocean and etc. I visited the Timucua Indian exhibit; I learned a lot of intriguing information that I didn’t know before. I learned how the Timucua Indians first came about, how the Indians lived and survived during this time period. This exhibit also showed me how the Indians looked and the way they did things. Being able to learn about the Timucua Indians is so fascinating to me.

The island was first home to Native Americans long before Europeans started settling there. Have you ever heard of the Powhatan tribe? If not, let me share a little fact about them. Powhatan means “waterfall” in the Virginia Algonquian language. The Powhatans didn't live in tepees. They lived in small roundhouses called wigwams, or in larger Iroquois-style longhouses.
The Lenape tribe is tribal community now mostly known as the Delaware Tribe of Indians and the Delaware Nation. They were also called Lenni Lenape. In their native language Lenni means genuine or real while Lenape means Indian or people (Waldman). The Lenape language was originally taken from an Algonquian language. However, the Lenape language was wiped out and currently there are very few Lenape Indians that are capable of speaking their native language fluently. There are currently very few Lenape Indians and most are located in Canada and parts of the United States. They were branched into several different clans. They lived mostly near rivers and were divided into three major clans. The first clan was the tukwsi-t or the wolf the second was the pukuwanku or the turtle and pele' which translates to turkey (Waldman). For thousands of years they lived peaceful lives and survived off of planting and hunting. Women were strongly valued in this tribe therefore they followed a matrilineal system. Everyone in the tribe had specific roles even the children. As the first European explorers arrived the tribe’s life shifted drastically. For the Lenape tribe the 1700s was a devastating time.
The Mandan are an indigenous tribe native to North America. The Mandan’s are known for being one of the earliest tribes to live on the great plains of the Midwest. Unlike other plains Indians the Mandan were a settled tribe who lived along the Big Bend of the Missouri River in what is now called North Dakota. While most tribes that lived in the plains were hunter/gatherers who lived a nomadic lifestyle following their food, the Mandan were planters living mostly off their crops. Warriors left once a year in hunting groups to go out into the plains in search for Buffalo, which was not only their major meat source, but was also used for clothing and shelter as well.
The majority of the villages were located along the banks of the Coosa, Tallaposa, Flint, Ocmulgee, and Chattachoochee rivers. The native word for the most powerful band of Creeks was the "Muskogees". The Creek native Americans were the most powerful and widespread tribe of the Southeast culture area. The Cheyenne Tribe of native american indians are one of the most well known tribes in the plains. Originally in the 1600’s the Cheyenne Tribe lived in stationary villages in the east part of the country. They would rely on farming to make money and to feed their family. The Cheyennes occupied what is now Minnesota. In the 1700’s the Cheyennes migrated to North Dakota and settled on a river. Being one of the few tribes on the Great Plains they had more than enough food and water, meaning that the Pawnee population would exceed 35,000 people. Eventually the Pawnee split up into 4 separate groups. The 4 groups were the Pitahauerat, meaning people downstream, the Chaui, meaning people in the middle, the Skidi, meaning wolf, the Kitkehahaki, meaning little muddy bottom village. The Chaui lived by the Arkansas River in Kansas and the Platte in Nebraska. The Pitahauerat lived in the same place as the Chaui. The Skidi spread out across the northern prairie of Nebraska with their settlements on the northern part of the Loup River. The Kitkehahaki settled in Nebraska at the Loup River. These 4 groups eventually had to come together because the copious amounts of the food and water attracted more tribes.
There have been several Native American people living in this area since around the 4th millennium B.C. Many tribes lived along the shores, and used it for a source of food and crop watering. In the lower Mississippi, tribes such as the Choctaw, Chickasaw, Quapaw, Caddo, osage, Tunica, and Natchez lived and created tribes. In the upper Mississippi, tribes such as Sioux, Sac and Fox, Ojibwe, Potawatomi, Illini, Menominee, and Winnebago did the same. The river provided them with means of transportation, clean water to drink, and food like mussels and fish.
