If a magnificent movie is judged by its ability to leave a message with you long after you’ve seen it, then the movie Precious is one of them. There are various reasons to see the movie Precious. Rarely does a movie upset and inspire you at the same time. It will leave you emotionally. It is a movie set in 1987 Harlem about overweight, uneducated, African American teenager who is a victim of incest. Among other things, it is a story of perseverance and survival. It also gives us a raw look at the connection between abuse and eating problems. I have chosen the main character Precious. Precious’ weight gain and eating plays a major role in the movie. Features of the story help describes many of the reasons emotional, physical, and particularly sexual abuse, are risk factors for eating disorders. This includes, bulimia, binge eating disorder, anorexia as well as emotional eating, obesity and body image displeasure. Described within the vignette is a nineteen year old teenager named Brandy. Similar to girls her age, Brandy has difficulties dealing with her body image and self-esteem. For instance, she experiences hopelessness, isolation, sadness, and anxiety that all contribute to Brandy’s acknowledgement of her physical appearance. She completely overestimates her body size to the point of taking dieting pills then defaulting to purging. During the typical day, the meals are scarce but healthy compared to a bad day full of unhealthy snacking. Lastly, her family predicament is not a supportive one at that. Her mother was obese so she constantly dieted while Brandy’s father illustrated signs of sexual interest although he never physically touched her.

She feels that her body, looks, incest, and abuse in her home with her mother have caused her life to be unpleasant. She daydreams about dating a “light” skin guy, being in movies, and having a very functional family with her two kids. A social worker by the name of Ms. Weiss helps Precious by discovering the incest and abuse in Precious’ home.
“Precious” is a film about a Harlem teen of the same name’s attempts of escape from her abusive mother and lustful father in order to live a new life and have a brighter future. The movie, in spite of cliché and problems in the plot, managed to win the viewers’ heart and took them up for an empathic and compassionate adventure of Precious, a 16-year-old teen who is slowly transforming into a mature and independent young woman. Coupled with a decent director and excellent actors, “Precious” is indeed one of the well-acted and beautiful of the year 2008.
In the movie “ Precious “ by Lee Daniels, Gabourey Sidibe plays a sixteen years old, illiterate and overweight girl name Precious, who lives in Harlem, New York. She lives with her mother Mary Jones, who was entropic and abusive to her. The abuse and oppression was so traumatic for Precious, she would often dissociate herself from the situation and pretend to be someone else. Losing track of time, her situation and herself was her coping mechanism; throughout the movie it appeared that she would have these dreaming episodes where she would be another person in a much better situation. Precious become pregnant twice from her biological father, who had abandoned the family and infected both she and her mother with the HIV virus. She suffered long-term physical, emotional, sexual, and verbal abuse from her from her parents; symptoms from her personal oppression were depressive and withdrawn attitude. Often she was very quiet and appeared unengaged and inattentive in class.

I have decided to write about the foreign film called "Divines". It is about a girl named Madunia and her best friend named Maui. They are brought up in the violent and poor area in Thailand and turn to selling narcotics for a drug dealer to make money. All through out the movie it shows the experiences that they both went through from their point of view. The crisis event in the movie precious is rather obscure at first. At first look you think that the crisis event is that precious is kicked out of school sent to an alternative school because she's pregnant, however I disagree. I believe the true crisis event occurred after precious had her child and went home to her mother’s apartment. Up to that point, precious had never asked for help from anyone regarding her home life or the abuse that was taking place. When precious’s returned home from the hospital with her baby and was attacked by her mother, she ran away to the only place she knew to go that was safe, her school.

I am not the type of person that interested into watching animated movie. During Winter Break, I had to take care of my cousin and she wanted me to take her to see this movie. I went to the theater with not much expectation about this movie since I only watched the trailer. After watching Coco, I realized that this movie is worthwhile to watch with family and friends and it can be enjoyable by all ages. Different factors help to create this good movie such as the plot itself, the colorful cinematography and the culture that was brought into the movie.

This text is about the author reviewing the famous movie “Precious”, which is directed by Lee Daniels and based on the novel “Push” by Sapphire. This 1-hour-and-50-minute film is about a pregnant Harlem teen named “Precious”, played by Gabourey Sidibe, attempted to escape from her abusive mother Mary, played by Mo’Nique, in order to build a new life together with her babies after being offered to turn her life around. In addition of reviewing the movie and just giving thoughts about the general aspects, she went on talking about the director’s style, each actor’s performance of the main as well as side characters. She described Daniels’ style as “confronting viewers with the most squalid, violent depredations Precious suffers at her mother’s hands” and realistic as Precious cannot face the reality of abusing because she retreated from it by daydreaming her “boyfriend”. So as we can see, instead of lessening the pain, Daniels showed us the full view of Precious’s sad and miserable truth, which is quite unlike many directors of the same era. Although Hornaday did mention about the problems and cliché of the film’s characters like Mary and Precious herself like how precious can withstand the “plague of social ills” without becoming “grostesque” , she said it made up for the actors’ impressive performance to the point
“Brave” is a Pixar movie that introduces the idea that Merida wants to be independent. The movie premiered June 15, 2012. Things take a wild turn as the relationship between her mother gets tarnished by the arranged marriage that Merida does not wish to participate in. Overall I would rate Pixar’s movie, “Brave” a three out of five. I found that the Pixar movie was a movie that was made just to present something on the shelf in between new hit movies from Pixar. The storyline was the only negative thing I have to support my opinion, although the storyline is a huge part of the movie. The technical elements and the actors were magnificent in this movie.
