‘Dead Poets Society’ is an American drama movie, produced in 1989. The film was written by Tom Schulman and directed by Peter Weir. It is about a group of boys in an elite academy. A newly-arrived English teacher uses unorthodox methods to show students how to be freethinkers and non-conformists. The scene is set in New England, 1950s. It is the beginning of a new school year at the prestigious male preparatory school Wellton. There is a welcoming ceremony with teachers, students and parents. The Headmaster Mr. Nolan gives a speech and reminds everyone the academy’s four pillars: Tradition, Honor, Discipline, and Excellence. Todd Anderson is a freshman here. His brother was a Valedictorian, and a recipient of the National Merit Scholarship. Todd’s parents expect him to be like his brother. Anderson’s roommate is Neil Perry. His father makes him drop the school annual in order to have more time for studying. On the first day of their classes, the two boys are exposed to orthodox uncreative and uninteresting teaching style. Math professor gives them homework "all 20 questions at the end of the first chapter are due tomorrow". Finally, they have English class. At first he is reluctant but eventually tells them. Dead Poets Society was a secret club, taking place in a nearby cave, which purpose was to take meaning out of life, to inspire.
