In frankenstein by Mary Shelley a morally ambiguous character is the creature. The creature is an ambiguous because he shows a human sympathetic side when he tells Victor his tale. However, when he is neglected by human kind because of his appearance, he causes suffering to other people in order to get revenge on Victor. He has also done violent things, and he's a murderer. The moral ambiguity of the creature contributes to the major theme of the novel of how people will judge you by appearance before getting to know your persona, and how that contributes to making you feel lonely and miserable.
The creature seek acceptance from humans, but when he tries to sympathize with one they aren't able to look past his appearance and are incapable of seeing his qualities. When the creature tells Victor his tale we learn how Victor's irresponsibility affects the creature. The first human to reject the creature is Victor, his own creator. Victor first states that the creature horrifies him, and left the creature to fend for himself. The creature seems like a kid because he has to learn how to survive, talk, write, read etc. When the creature continues telling Victor his tale he describes how he saves a girl from drowning, and the man that is …show more content…

This demonstrates the creatures moral ambiguity because he first saves an innocent girls life, but then he kills an innocent boy just for vengeance. In addition, he threatens to kill Elizabeth if Victor doesn't create female monster for him. This event also shows the creatures moral ambiguity because he wants to a female companion as hideous as he is, so that he won't feel alone if the world but Victor did not create the female companion he became enraged and killed Elizabeth whom was going to be Victors
