They have to come around in their own time, wondering what happened and why the world blew up around them, it can’t last. A quote by Ray Bradbury. Meanwhile, in the book, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, tells a story on how montag changed by the influences of the positive people in his society. The next paragraph will show what happened from the beginning and how he changed. Although today’s technological advances haven’t caught up with Bradbury’s F451, there is a very real danger that society might end up overly relying on technology at the price of intellectual development. Granger changes montag as well as faber did but differently, here is a reason “Montag follows the railroad tracks, and he meets a group of men and one man (Granger) offered him a cup of coffee and all of the men talk and get to know each other better and montag talks to the men and got to know them.. Montag has an conversation with granger and he gives him some advice. After all of this, montag feels like himself again by engaging with the world, and he says that faber and granger are alike because they are educated and thoughtful and they both lives as fugitives outside of the society. This piece of evidence will help and explain what granger does to help montag “Granger says that he himself is Plato’s Republic and another man at the campfire in Marcus Aurelius's work. He introduces the men by the authors they have memorized. Granger explains why they all memorized books and then burned them, because keeping the books was too dangerous”. By identifying themselves by the works they’ve memorized, the men show that their knowledge is more important than their identities. In other words, it’s not the medium but the message that matters. Montag tells the men that something is wrong, here is evidence from the text “if his wife dies he might not be sad, he can’t even remember her”. Granger comforts montag and telling him about his late grandfather, a sculptor. Granger believes that people are remembered when they touch the world with thought and care and , in doing so, change it, even if it is in very small ways. Granger changed montag because of his advice and montag followed his advice and he didn’t feel that bad anymore. Montag’s society is convinced that education means mindlessly memorizing facts. However, a large amount of information and facts is not a proper substitute for deep, critical thought. When information is just given and not analyzed, it prevents questioning why facts are true and inhibits the development of basic thinking skills, such as when Montag struggles to understand the book he is reading. Additionally, with so much information and entertainment circulated in Montag’s society, significant ideas that promote questioning and changing life cannot be developed. Without thoughts that allow people to question their ways and change themselves, people believe they are perfect, cannot realize their faults, and are unable to change the way they are. When Montag consults Faber for some insight on books, Faber states that books have been abandoned because “they show the pores in the face of life” and, because of this, their society is “living in a time when flowers are trying to live on flowers, instead of growing on good rain and black loam” (Bradbury 79). Instead of taking the time to think and develop thoughts, the citizens of Montag’s city take the easy way in life, by avoiding any deep thought and personal opinion altogether. Getting help from an older man who had learned to handle the knowledge while Montag could not, Montag is able to make it out of the city quickly with little damage done to himself.
