Montage of heck was released on the anniversary of the year he took his life. It is a documentary film which explores Nirvana’s front man and ‘90s rock icon Kurt Cobain. Pros Some elements of the film are exciting as it includes never seen intimate footage along with unreleased work which includes a 12 minute acoustic track. The most striking part of this film, is whereby Brett Morgen uses audio recordings that Kurt Cobain made himself to coincide with an animation story taking us through Kurt’s early life and transition to fame. Brett Morgen was granted a wide variety of material to use for this film and it could not have been depicted better. The film has a variety of sources including clips of Cobain’s friends presenting testimonies, audio tape recordings and experts commentary. Cons Poor reenactments and graphics with Benjamin Statler portraying only what he believes as being true. Unfortunately there are no two sides to this investigation or a different possibilites explored. Statler implies that Courtney Love is responsible for the death of her husband. PROS Article describes in detail various events in the lead up to Kurt Cobain’s death. Including specific dates of background on the crucial lows of Kurt Cobain in the lead up to his death which possibly could have prompted the suicide. Along with various missing truths, false police reports, details of the shotgun he used in his suicide and friends in the police force. Because of this, the article implies that Kurt may have not taken his own life and that these facts presented to us do not add up.
