It’s been him the whole time. Those years at summer camp, the coffee dates he came on, every birthday present he bought, all of the times he gave a shoulder to cry on, and the time he rescued me. It’s always been him. After weeks of thought, I finally figured out what I really need. As Josh walks through that door, I sit up. A huge smile rushes over his face, a smile of happiness and of relief as he realizes I am not dead. He walks over to the hospital bed where I’ve been bound to for over 15 days and leans his face down to mine. Guilt fills my soul while thinking about betraying the boy I had been with for 2 years, but I remember that he deserves this and so, so much more. The last thing that I can remember is look of horror that filled …show more content…
She followed her steps back to the chair where she had been sitting when I knocked on the door. I had known Josh would be arriving at the Hacker’s house shortly after myself but I wanted to spend time with Ben to console him. I wanted him to realize that this was not his fault. But I should have remembered what he becomes. By the time I had reached his room he had already turned into the monster. Three knocks on the front door was all that it took to make Ben’s mom get up from the couch, and abandon the ‘Saturday Night News.’ The news that posterized the loss of our hometown Cardinals high school baseball team in the state game earlier that day. Everyone in the town knew Ben was the best player on the team, with it being his final year at the school and have already committed to play at the college level. But today our town may think a little differently since the loss was rested on his shoulders. It was a normal action for Ben and I to get into fights. It happened at least once a week if not more. But the week before the state game had been different. Ben was sweet, and generous all week. I thought- maybe just maybe- he was turning over a new …show more content…
Before I can even understand what just made happened Ben and I made eye contact and then he snapped his bat over his knee. He had worked so hard to get to that point, but it didn’t matter because they lost. Josh looks over to me and by the look on his face, I can see that something strong is brewing but I cannot make out what it is. Josh had gotten a base hit. He got one run in and now the Cardinals are down by 1 run to the Pirates. The bases are loaded and it’s the bottom of the 7th. There were 2 outs. Ben was up to bat. Foul ball. 0-1. Inside pitch. 1-1. Outside pitch. 2-1. Swing and miss. 2-2. Low pitch. 3-2. The ball was pitched right down the middle when the pitcher messed up his call. It was the perfect chance for Ben to hit at least two runs in. But he barely got his bat on the ball. The ball rolled right to the first baseman and the only thing he had to do was touch the base. And that was the ballgame. June 15th. It was the day Ben and Josh had been looking forward to since they were 7. After 11 years of baseball, they would finally get to play in the state championship game. 11 years of pizza after every game. 11 years of playing catch in the backyard. It was finally their time to
“If you build it, he will come” (Kinsella 1). These words of an announcer jump start a struggle for Ray Kinsella to ease the tragic life of Shoeless Joe Jackson. Ray hears a voice of an announcer which leads him to build a baseball field that brings Shoeless Joe Jackson onto the field. However, this field puts his family on the verge of bankruptcy which is just one of the struggles Ray Kinsella is presented in his life. Shoeless Joe Jackson is no stranger to having no money, as he was only making a measly $1.25 as a kid struggling to support his family. He never attended school and was illiterate throughout his entire life. The struggle is completely the same with Ray Kinsella growing up, as he is forced into baseball, which ultimately makes him run away from home. Ray’s hate is Joes love. Joe loves baseball and makes it to the major leagues, but it doesn’t last. Joe’s career is cut short due to the fact he is accused of throwing the World Series, and banned from baseball forever. Rays’s father would have loved it if his son made it to the major leagues because he thought Ray had the potential and talent. However, his only dream was simple, he wanted to play a game of catch with his son, unfortunately, he passed away and he never got to see his son after he ran away. Shoeless Joe Jackson’s death wasn’t any better, as he died guilty of throwing the World Series which was the biggest sports tragedy to date. Tragedies are not uncommon phenomena, Ray Kinsella and Shoeless Joe Jackson have the unfortunate luck to go through a struggle fulfilled and uphill battle in what is suppose to be a wonderful thing, life.
In one minute, they take the audience on a roller-coaster of emotion by showing the story of a young, insecure, teenage boy who has just experienced a major tragedy. We have all lost a loved one, we have all felt as if the whole world was on our shoulders, we have all felt alone, and we have all been in a critical moment where we have felt the pressure to succeed. We feel sadness with him as he is seen eating alone, and suffering through the grieving process. Having developed a “relationship” with Daniel, we all “cheer” for him as he walks out onto the baseball diamond for the big game. We feel anxiety and adrenaline with him, as he steps up to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning. And we all receive the ecstatic feeling of victory as Daniel saves the day and is seen afterwards expressing happiness with his teammates and friends. Just when the advertisement leaves the audience satisfied, we are called to action – to help save youth sports.
Benjamin Franklin Rodriguez was a young Latino who had a passionate love for baseball. He was like any normal kid in the neighborhood apart from his strikingly athletic good looks, strong natural leadership and obsession with baseball. “Benny”, as his closest friends would call him, was a true hero to his inner circle of teammates. Especially to Scotty Smalls, as it was Benny who saved Scotty from a life sentence by retrieving his step father’s prized Babe Ruth autographed baseball from the jaws of the notorious junkyard “Beast” and making himself a neighborhood legend.
baseball game my 3rd grade year . It was a beautiful day, a few clouds covering
As I lay on my bed, that night I could still hear the umpire calling “ballgame” and solidifying victory and our mark on Mountain Grove Softball history. The adrenaline and excitement of the moment were still running through my veins as my mind started to drift. I soon found myself thinking of
When Ben found out that Madec is going to hunt him he realized that he had to stay mentally and physically strong. As he was wandering around the desert he experienced the later stages of dehydration. That made him want to give up but he didn’t. He then finds a butte and climbs it even when he is incredibly weak. In the butte he finds a tunnel with a dirt puddle of water at the end of it which he uses to rehydrate. Since he was feeling better he hunted some small animals that were around and cooked them up on a hot rock heated by the sun. Now that he feels better and like himself again he realizes that now is his time to take down Madec. He goes over to Madecs camp and hides underneath the sand to prevent Madec to see him using a pipe to breathe and to listen out of. When he gets out of the sand he goes over to Madec’s tent and light it on fire to get his attention. Then shot Madec using a slingshot using a shotgun buckshot. He gets Madec into the Jeep and throws the old man into the back and drives to the town. As he arrives to the Sheriff's station and the Sheriff sends both of them to the hospital for treatment. No one believes Ben’s story on what happened out in the desert. So because of that Ben uses his slingshot to show them what he used to shoot Madec with. The doctor also finds out that the first bullet that entered the old prospectors body wasn’t from Ben's gun which makes Madec the
Lindsay did not change any of her habits when she first met ben because she did not feel that she had to. However, once she actually knew what ben was about she focused on making things work instead of waiting for it to happen. On the first date, ben goes to Lindsay's house and finds her really sick. She have ate at a restaurant earlier on that day and she got food poisoning. Ben was not able to just leave her in the condition she was in, so he stayed that night and took care of her.
Fifty one thousand fans were on their feet watching as the pitcher wounded up to throw his next pitch. They needed one out and the dream would come true. The whole stadium went silent as the ball was throw and. The year 2010 was a very memorable year for the Texas Rangers. It showed great sportsman ship and team work. Wait you didn’t want me to stop? Well can I just go on, I don’t have to tell you what happens do I? As soon as that ball leaves the pitcher’s hand it’s a homerun or an out, a win or a loss. Now that’s what I love about baseball. I want to talk to you about the Texas Rangers. They are not the most famous team by the championships they have one but they are one of the most interesting teams in baseball.
I felt as though I was watching a train barrelling towards me, an inevitable bullet that had come tumbling out of the opposing pitcher’s arm. But instead I stood immobilized, watching my team's only chance of winning whiz by me. Strike three. I heard my team from behind me shouting “SWING!” with my mind screaming the same. But my bat remained unmoving, the pop of the catcher's glove like the nail into the coffin that was our defeat. All I had to do to keep our hopes of winning hope alive was swing, and yet I couldn't. I stayed on the field afterwards, tossing the ball up in the air and swinging away, landing it on the thick maple barrel of the bat.
When did you grow up? Ben! Get over here. Don’t worry. I’m not going to work tonight.
As the novel opens, we are greeted by Ron Williamson who is a character from the small town of Ada, Oklahoma, which is one of those types of places no one even knew, existed. Williamson is very much thought of like the star quarterback on the college football team. He was “Mr. Popularity” throughout high school; always being the one to round up the gang for a party every weekend. He was a very talented athlete and never passed up a ball game. Williamson was on the honor roll throughout high school, a straight A-grade student, and was recognized many times for his performance as a student at school and his performance as an athlete on the field. His success did not end after high school, but rather he went on to play for the major league in baseball and was recognized for his performance over and over again leading the draft picks many seasons. Ron had dreamed of being a ‘big-star’ and a ‘hit’ in the major leagues just as he was on his hometown team, but unfortunately for him he never did reach such heights.
A calm crisp breeze circled my body as I sat emerged in my thoughts, hopes, and memories. The rough bark on which I sat reminded me of the rough road many people have traveled, only to end with something no one in human form can contemplate.
flushes the toilet and walks out of the restroom to see Ben standing there. He explains to
With over a hundred hours of batting practice this season, Paul planted his feet firmly against the soft dirt. He took a deep breath and readied himself for the pitch. The ball bolted towards the strike zone, and Paul started his swing. He swung his bat with perfection. In his head, Paul knew it would be the best hit of the year. “Strike three!” The umpire hollered. It took Paul all but a second to realize that he struck out for the tenth consecutive time, and that he caused the Mustangs to lose the championship game. He walked towards the dugout; his teammates stared at him with grudge.
I first met *Ben in second grade, which can be a seemingly non-momentous time in life. When you’re eight, romance is hardly the most prominent topic in mind (at least hopefully not), and so, although this would eventually be a meeting of enormous impact, I didn’t really it until many years later, as we so often don’t.
