For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” –Matthew 25: 34-36 Jesus would find the best way to care for those in need regardless of the social standards. Jesus would not let barriers like: limited resources and lack of volunteers to stop him from doing his work of serving and helping others. His number one character trait is his servitude. 3 The Modern day Jesus would have compassion for any of his people in need, just like he did all those years ago. Jesus can be found on the streets with the poor and in the buildings serving food. Jesus could be seen amongst his people providing them with food, clothing, and shelter. He will sit with them and share his love for them. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.” –Mark 10:45 Our homeless shelters are overrun with the vast needs of the people. Our streets are fill of people who have lost everything and have nowhere to go. They need guidance and an encouraging voice, a ray of hope, and love. Volunteers and churches do what they can to help, but sometimes it is not enough to turn their statistics around. If Jesus walked the earth today, he would be with the people; serving and blessing them. Servitude is not a job title. It is not a time card that you can punch every day. It is a commitment to have compassion and caring for real people with real problems. This is what it means to serve with a heart like Jesus. All of God’s people are called to serve. “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” –Matthew 5:3 “The poor in spirit,” does not necessarily mean that the people are financially poor, but could be lost souls. They could need the love and guidance from a Christian who cares about them and their souls. Someone who cares how they are and what they can do to show them a better way. That person today would still be Jesus. He would be there comforting and showing compassion to his people in
