Recently, three articles were reviewed discussing whether or not the movie Moana was insensitive or not. There are many different opinions about this controversy about whether the movie was insensitive or not. Disney was justified in creating the Moana film and was not culturally insensitive to the Polynesian people because the creators of Moana traveled to the Pacific Islands to learn about Polynesian culture, they made their music as authentic as possible, and because the way the characters are interpreted are as political and cultural figures that represent strength. Moreover, the quote explains how working with a Hawaiian songwriter and the composer of Hamilton can make the music blend well with the movie. Another example shown through a quote would be also in article one which talks about the future of the characters. “They understood the importance of being part of creating the next major figure in the Disney universe.” This quote explains how important it is for the movie to be successful to create a positive picture of Polynesians. Additionally, the characters in the movie could become a great jewel in the Disney collection along with many other great movie characters.
