One shouldn't attempt to play god as god's own creations can turn on him. In Mary Shelley's gothic novel Frankenstein, a young scientist named Victor Frankenstein who gained a passion to give life to the dead through his scientific studies. Frankenstein's ambitions lead him to create a creature of abnormal size and deformities without considering the possible consequences of his creation. Frankenstein became dissatisfied and fearful of how his creation turned out and decided to abandon it. Frankenstein's creation continued to live on his own but couldn't fit into human society because of his deformed appearance and ended up struggling to survive without love and compassion. Shelley's message in Frankenstein can apply to modern life today. Many people today draw conclusions based off general knowledge without digging deeper into the subject. One example of this is stereotyping races which lead to prejudgment. Recent terrorist attacks from ISIS have led to stereotyping Muslims as terrorists. Another current problem is illegal immigration on the border between the U.S. and Mexico. This has led to many Hispanics to be perceived as illegal immigrants. These stereotypes can deter one from career opportunities or make it harder to conform to our society just like the monster in Frankenstein. People today also neglect the consequences of science and technology like Victor Frankenstein did. Mass production of fossil fuels for energy has led to pollution and trapping of heat which has led to global warming. Even though Shelley has recognized some of the causes to these problems earlier, they still exist
