Coal mining ended in Midlothian over 60 years ago, but the trails the miners used to transport coal across, still remains. It's 1983, and Midlothian, Virginia was a quiet and developing town located west of Richmond and south of the James River. 3 girls, Jenny, Barbara, and Miranda are eighth graders who attend a popular middle school in the area, Midlothian Middle. However, the school seems to be surrounded by controversy and mystery. During the months of August and September, 3 students who attended the school went missing, without a trace. Their bodies were never found, dead nor alive. It was early November, the boys' soccer season was coming to an end, and the air was chilly. The girls were friends with some members of the soccer …show more content…
Miranda's house seemed to be the best option, as it was located in close proximity to the school and was a familiar meeting place for the girls. Seconds after, Miranda's face split into a sinister grin, similar to a cat's satisfying smile after it had just caught mouse. She began to talk quickly of a new path she had been wanting to walk on, mumbling of how it was right behind her house and would get them home in half the time it took to walk the "old way". Jenny narrowed her eyes, she was smart and didn't think this sounded like a good idea. Barbara agreed with Jenny, repeating her opinions. Miranda was offended, her friends had always agreed with her on everything, they would never dare to sway from her opinions. Miranda was blind with rage, she began to scream at her friends, getting into their faces, shouting loud lies. Jenny and Barbara retaliated quickly, yelling right back at Miranda. After what felt like hours, but was really only 5 minutes, Miranda had had enough, and ran away from her …show more content…
Their bodies were found holding onto one another, in a pile at the bottom of the 40 foot hole. When officers were getting the bodies from the hole, the remains of the other 3 students were found and identified. After 4 years, the sinkhole was able to be filled, and the path was closed for almost 15 years, until 2002 when the school believed the hole would be free of hazard or risk. Today, when runners or students travel the trail, they will mention feeling a slight tug on their leg, as though someone is beckoning for help or attention. Those who experience this phenomenon tend to be crippled with a broken leg shortly after their run. By locals, adults and students alike, the trail has been appropriately nicknamed "Miranda's
For two college students MaryAnn Pesce and Anita Luchessa it would be their last pickup. Their parents had reported them missing but they would hear anything about their kids until August 15. In Santa Cruz a body was found in the woods, it was the body of Pesce’s, the body of Luchessa’s was never found. Later Kemper would have explained that he had stabbed and strangled Pesce and he stabbed Luchessa as well. He then proceeded to say that he took the bodies to his house where he cut off their hands and heads and then committed sexual activities with their
What seemed to be a very long and difficult game, the Worland High School Varsity Girls come through to winning the game against Powell. Still remaining number one in the 3A division in the state of Wyoming, Worland has put up a fight regarding their loss against Lander last year at state soccer in Jackson, Wyoming. Worland’s very first game of the season this year in 2014 was against Jackson. The defending state champions were demolished by the Warriors, and Jackson also did not score a single goal. Majority of the girls soccer players this year are very young, only three seniors are on the team this year. As observed on April 4, 2014, the Warriors went against a stronger team in their division, Powell. Not only does Powell have bigger, stronger, and faster girls, but they also started worrying the Warrior crowd after they had put two shots into the goal of the goal keeper. With the score 2-2 it became more and more intense in the crowd. Only about 10 minutes were left in the game, and like last year at state Worland did not want to go into overtime because if there was no goal after overtime match it would lead into penalty kicks. As horrifying as it is to have that kind of pressure within about 6 minutes left of the game a goal was finally made for the Warriors! The score was now 3-2, and Powell was not happy. As the head coach from Powell was jumping up and down saying that they have this game motivated his girls. However, Worland put up a fight and as close as it was Worland finishes off the game with a win. An evaluation of the game was indeed a struggle to write on; however, Anna Hepp will give me information from her perspective of the game along with the another senior, Yesie Herrera.
They were a team of determined and decisive girls ready to win. After a season heaved with losses, this game changed the girls’ playing habits and endurance. The game was very close the whole time, with Victoria Park holding a small edge of an advantage of one or two baskets the entire game. Within the last nine seconds, Emery caught up and advanced leaving Emery the winner. The girls played their hardest but were not able to catch up in time. The game was declared a loss for Victoria Park by just two points. Nonetheless, no loss was able to reduce the high spirits of the school’s team because they had still qualified for the playoffs. They played a great season filled with rebounds, field goals, and
Miss Desjardin, still incensed over the locker room incident and ashamed at her initial disgust with Carrie, wants all the girls who made fun of Carrie suspended and banned from attending the school prom, but the principal instead punishes the girls by giving them several detentions. When Chris, after an altercation with Miss Desjardin, refuses to appear for the detention, she is suspended and barred from the prom and tries to get her fat...
It was just another day of high school soccer practice during the spring break on a sunny April
It was on a regular school day when then seventh grader, Macy Misfeldt stumbled on a lacrosse flier posted in one of the hallways at Superior Middle School. This flier incited an interest in Misfeldt and then prompted her to ask her mother’s permission to join the team. After being pronounced as too young to do so Misfeldt anxiously anticipated her next year.
On Christmas Eve, December 24th, 1945, a fire destroyed the Sodder family home in Fayetteville, West Virginia. At this time, five out of ten of the Sodder children went missing. Some believe the children died in the fire, but some agree they were kidnapped. There was no trace of them. Investigations have found clues to prove this theory. Without a doubt, the Sodder children were kidnapped.
The group dynamic and team cohesion among the 1999 Women’s soccer team was unbelievably superb. In the video, after so many years of being apart they all came together again. Each complementing each other in conversation, almost as if they were never even apart.
I was in 7th grade and it was the middle of December. By now, basketball season was in full swing, and we had already had three games, winning every one of them so far. It was a Friday and we had our fourth game of the season today, at our home court against South Tama. The bell signifying the end of eighth period rang, and my teammates and I that are in Mrs. Oldenburger’s study hall raced to the locker room to change into shorts, so we could shoot baskets before our game. I had never played South Tama in any sport before, so I didn’t know what to expect. But one of my teammates, James, said “We played South Tama in football this fall, and we beat them easily. They aren’t very good at all”
It was hot, Caleb and I were warming up before the soccer game. Caleb was tall and muscular, I was short and skinny. This was our last game and we had lost all our games prior. “This could be our chance to finally win a game,” I said to Caleb. We joined the team huddle to talk about the rules the ref gave us and to be assign our positions. I was assigned right wing while caleb was assigned striker. The sun was slowly disappearing in the horizon like a item in quicksand as the game started.
It was a chilly, but still very sunny day in mid September. The birds chirped and the sun shined. All was good. That weekend my travel soccer team and I went to a New England Revolution game. We all went to Hannaford to meet up together. Once we were all accounted for our head coach began to list off what van people were traveling in. Multiple shrieks erupted out of the girls as they were being separated from their best friends. Our coach thought it would be good for us to mingle with the other teammates that we usually don't talk to. As we all hopped in our vans and said our goodbyes to our best friends from then on our journey had just begun.
The soccer game was against Stillman Valley. Some of us players on the varsity team knew how skilled the players on Stillman Valley’s varsity team were because of our previous games against them in indoor soccer.
It was a warm September day, perfect for baseball. I had eagerly woken up, gotten dressed and set off for my first practice as a member of the Superfund Wanderers, a new team I had joined that year. As I walked onto the field, I knew this practice would be unlike any I had experienced before. The first person I met introduced himself as Matthias. He had long, blonde hair that fell past his shoulders and ill-fitting pants that seemed three sizes too small. The glove he used was cheap and plastic, better suited to a tee-ball player half his age. He didn’t even have baseball spikes on, instead opting for soccer cleats. Looking around the field, a dozen kids fit the same mold. They were passionately discussing the latest soccer scores, yelling
It was about one-thirty in the morning in the town of Homestead Michigan. The almost florescent light of the moon bouncing off the fresh puddles that covered the ground. The grass and trees were covered in a thin layer of water causing every little beam of light to reflect back up. Anyone who may have been outside at this time would have without double, smelled the mix of fresh dirt and night crawlers. As the moonlight started to fade away through the cloud cover, three buses made there way through the streets and parked in front of HHS, the local high school.
There was a girl named Kandy, she was 15 years old. Her life was extremely boring, all she ever did was go to school, go on her computer, eat and sleep. She spent all summer on her computer. She was really good with HTML and spent her free time making web sites. Kandy didn't have many friends and rarely talked to guys because she was shy and unconfident about her looks. That's why she went into chat rooms. She made a web site with pictures of herself on it and told people in chat rooms to go there. A lot of people would tell her how pretty she was and some would say she was ugly. That made her feel awful. When anyone would say anything nice to her, she wouldn't believe them and think that they were just making fun of her. She only had one real friend that she could talk to, her name was Ang.
