Mia Wallace, the wife of Marcellus Wallace, may not be an antagonist. Yet, I felt that she is a perfect example of the Freudian ID in writing. In the show she has a tendency to do only what she wants to do and only in that moment. She is constantly being decisive, and instantaneous in her choices. Pulp Fiction is a show that is debated on its true meaning, though one of the most debated and accepted theories is that it is the journey of Marcellus Wallace’s soul. It is thought that he has sold his soul to the devil and has sent his men to retrieve it. As the movie jumps across the timeline with his wife, Mia, who becomes a main character. As one of the gangsters takes Mia out for Marcellus, she will only go to one place for dinner and will not go anywhere else. Then proceeds to order expensive food and an expensive milkshake because she wanted to. In the restaurant she forced the gangster to dance with her to win a contest that was set up the moment before. Finally, when she gets home, she starts to drink alcohol when she finds a powdered substance in the gangsters jacket and without asking, decides to snort it thinking it was cocaine, all of this just to get the maximum feeling out of the moment. Unconvincingly, rumors are thrown around of possible cheating and even a foot rub that she received from a gangsters. And then her husband, Marcellus, threw the man out of a window many stories up from the ground. If the stories are true, then she knew he would inevitably die from this action. If they are fake then she may be in the clear for at least this action of the ID. Continually throughout the movie Mia only looks to help herself, she only cares for her and her husband and will only satisfy herself regardless. Best we leave out that the “cocaine” was actually heroine. And snorting heroin creates an immediate overdose. She does come through and makes it home safely and although it is not completely known. There is an assumption that Marcellus does get his soul back. Mia wants him to have his soul back for her pleasure, she also wants to do anything
