The gadsden purchase was an agreement in 1854 were united states agreed to pay mexico this purchase provided the necessary for a southern transcontinental railroad . The United States did cause the Mexican war because they wanted to expand west but also because they claimed they had the right to get more than what they already had. Also determining where the border should be cause a big problem but in some way they both start it because mexico took texas away.
