Every soldier, veteran or any military service, deserve a chance at life when they go back home but it is not always like this. Military personnel have always struggled with mental issues because of all the trauma they face on and off the battlefield. All veterans who struggle from a mental illness should be able to be given the treatments they need to survive the life they have ahead of them, and take advantage of the chance they have been given. Mental illness is simply a health condition which can include some sort of changes in a person’s behavior, emotion, thinking, or a combination of these. Also known as PTSD, posttraumatic stress disorders evolve by different factors in specific types of traumas, like combat, car accident, experiencing a natural disaster, and/or sexual assault. According to the U.S Department of Veterans, “PTSD can happen to anyone. It is not a sign of weakness.” Soldiers are defined as strong and brave human beings who do not know the word weakness and so, they do not seek treatment when needed just to meet those expectations from people. This is one of reasons why returning soldiers aren’t able to seek help on their own because they don’t realize how bad the situation can become. The department also stated that symptoms can come and go and may not appear until months later, but will usually begin right after the traumatic event. Some of the symptoms can include, reliving the event, avoiding situations that reminds them of the event, having more negative feelings, and feeling keyed up. Sometimes, a person can help by opening the victim’s eyes when they did not want to and telling them straight forward, they might have a serious mental problem.
