Mental health is a constant issue for students to keep in check and can often result in negative situations. One student, Jake, is an example of the toll that school can have on students and how counseling and therapy can be used to help the situation. Jake used to be a student who focused only on school and didn't care much for anything else, but eventually all of school and personal issues came to be too much. He started to hate going to school, he began to suffer terrible panic attacks from the thought of his future and he began to threaten to commit suicide. The reasoning behind why schools should be providing as much help as possible, is because if the mental health issues aren't handle in time, the outcome can become a nightmare for the affected and the counselor. "Childhood and adolescent mental health issues can cause pain and emotional distress, and may compromise a student's chances for fully using his or her learning opportunities and for ultimately succeeding in school and later life," mental health is a major issue for young students and it can affect them even once they leave school (Repie, 1). School counselors are vital to the success of having good health and achieving in school for students, if counselors truly focus on the students and their health issues it can lead to minimizing the trouble that students would go through if not helped. These children spend most of their day in a school setting and even though it may not seem as harmful to them, there is never a way of seeing how much stress a student can be in or if there is anything else that could be disturbing and interrupting their time of learning and efforts. Although people blame the students' actions for not being successful in school, these mental health issues can be the harmful thing affecting the student. Not only with mental health do students became at risk but physical harm issues, especially to one's self.
If a student cannot receive help from somewhere to help with mental health issues, that could be anything from depression, anxiety (any form of anxiety disorderaVE), and anger issues, then they will seek for a way to help themselves.
