I believe am a viable candidate for JOP because of my passion and interest in the medical field. I am still uncertain on which health care career I want to pursue but I believe this opportunity will give me more exposure and more options. I am also a diligent worker and put all my effort from my school work to helping a patient. I can contribute to a company or program a hard worker and an eager student who is willing to learn in any environment.
From a young age I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field. Many of my relatives and family friends worked in hospitals; most were nurses. As a child, I used to wear a pair of my very own purple scrubs and play with my plastic medical tools or a real stethoscope. When I entered into high school I became more interested in the medical field with my Introduction to Health class. Learning about the systems of the body amazed me. I knew I wanted to continue taking health class and be part of the Medical Gateways Program. The Medical Gateways Program was established for students interested in various health professions. I loved and enjoyed the time I spent there and the people I met. Every day I learned something new and was even able to interact with many patients. I spoke to doctors, nurses, and medical students; they would tell me advice for my future and share their own journey with me. The hospital environment was no longer a foreign place but a place I was able to be comfortable in. Now, I intern at Weill Cornell Medical Center. I look forward on Fridays to return to a hospital environment and to have that rewarding feeling of being able to help someone. To me I feel like I belong in a hospital setting. I had a summer internship at financial banking office two years ago. Although I enjoyed the experience I had, I did not feel a calling to work behind a computer screen for hours on end and do
