My highest career aspiration is to become a part of the World Health Organization; provide long-term health solutions in its public health area. As a public health professional and a specialist in the global health domain, I am desirous of working on strategies; developing programs that will prevent the spread of disease; create healthy communities, as I introduce feasible plans to eradicate the epidemics like, Cholera and AIDS that plague developing and third world countries. My interest in life sciences became a passion for public health, when I was a biotechnology undergraduate. In addition to studying aspects of clinical research, dealing with diverse approaches that could be effectively applied to address the health problems of people, I also studied, courses like, ‘Introduction to Clinical Research’, ‘Epidemiological Principles Relevant to Clinical Research’, ‘Clinical Pharmacokinetics’ etcetera. Additionally, the taught courses dismissed the myth that clinical trials solely involved intervention. Furthermore, I also understood that clinical research dealt with the study of drugs from their inception in the laboratory to their use on patients in real settings; that prescriptive drugs, used to treat diseases and conditions could have adverse effects, also. Additionally, I studied and observed the entire drug-testing cycle – from animal testing to human testing, besides how clinical trials were designed to study either a condition with an approved drug or an existing condition with a new drug; ethical and social aspects which needed to considered before initiating such studies. I conducted a retrospective study; understood that such studies could give a fair idea about the effectiveness of new strategies being implemented for the betterment of the hospital’s patients. Furthermore, working as Trainee Research Coordinator for a multi-centric Phase III trial, I learned how patients were enrolled for clinical trials and the proper method of drug-dispensation.
