I went to a Alton Hight School football game against Edwardsville High School. To see the Marching 100’s half time show titled Echoes off the River. The game was on September 22, 2017. The performance was at Public School Stadium in Alton, IL. The show lasted for about 10 minutes. The performance was instrumental with it being a Marching Band. The group was a marching band around the size of 148 people. Over all the interaction between the marcher was pretty good plus they had get energy with each other. They marched on the field so there was movement to this performance. There were three soloist. One on piano, flute, and baritone. I think that Color Guard does count as special effects, so the performance did have them. They were a little off of each other. They had these huge flags that were super cool. The musical number that I am critiquing is The Flight of the Pisa. It was composed by Robert Sheldon. The mood at the beginning of the piece is very playful and curious almost like your on adventure and having a great time. Then the middle is bit slower and less confident like coming face to face …show more content…
It had a more artist approach to it. It was also fun to see that they used some of the same visuals as us in their show. I feel like they lost some visual effect by the fact that they did not wear their jackets and shakos because it very warm that night. Their arms look a little funny out to the sides without the jacket. The performers did engage me however I got distract by other audience members a few different times during the performance. During the performance people were talking really loud and a few people kept getting up and walking in front of me during the performance. Which I found very disrespectful. So this gave me an insight of how people probably act during our halftime shows because it hard to tell from the field. Overall I really enjoyed the show and was glad that I got to go see
The concert is performed by the Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. The video of this concert is 90 minutes in length. The concert was an ensemble of various Dave Brubeck arrangements utilizing various jazz techniques and styles with mainly the following instruments: bass, piano, trumpet, trombone, tenor sax, soprano sax, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto sax, flute, piccolo, baritone sax, drum, and tambourine. The performance included these 15 pieces: “Unsquare Dance”, “Three to Get Ready”, “The Duke”, “Cassandra”, “Strange Meadowlark”, “Who Will Take Care of Me?”, “It’s a Raggy Waltz”, “Tokyo Traffic”, “Take Five”, “Lost Waltz”, “Upstage Rhumba”, “In Your Own Sweet Way”, “Fast Life”, “Bluette”, and “Blue Rondo a la Turk”. The performance highlights the versatile, influential and extraordinary life’s work of Dave Brubeck.
Overall, this concert was worth going to. The orchestra played very well and it displayed two amazing artists from different regions of the spectrum coming together to make this concert stupendous. I would definitely like to hear more of Gerard Schwarz’s conducting and Ms. Astanova’s piano playing. I will be coming back to the symphony to hear more.
Every performance was presented with charm. The flashing, changing colors seem to go along with the performances. The director was humorous. The performers outfits were on point too. I liked the color coding of the vocalists, Jeremy, Jordan, and Rowan. Also, Julie wore a pretty suede dress and had a great voice. It was nice to see her come out for the 2nd time to sing. When Spencer kept playing his saxophone in some of the performances, it was just amazing. Some of my favorite performances were Sittin on the Dock of the Bay, Ain’t too Proud to Beg, In a Sentimental Mood, and more. It really made me feel like I was in New Orleans all over again. I absolutely love Otis Redding and The Temptations music, so I wasn’t new to these songs they played. I was sitting in the back (R-125) where I felt comfortable to bob my head to the music. If I ever come back to see another concert, I will make sure to get a seat in the back again. I adore Jordan that did sung the Temptations song. I thought it was exciting to see his enthusiasm while on stage keeping us engaged, but everyone did great in their own way. The song by Duke Ellington made me feel melancholy, the piece was soft. I just couldn’t believe how well everyone contributed and gave an outstanding
However, overall, I really enjoyed the performance. Even as a Hairspray conniseur and snooty arts school student that I am, I thought it was fantastic. I am very happy for my friends and peers who put on the production, and I wish both the cast and crew good luck with the Schuler’s later this
The first song played was from a genre that I had previously taken a test on, Sonata. The musicians played the song by the book. There were three movements and polyphonic texture. It was even fast and jerky. Nonetheless, this is the part where my rollercoaster was going down. In my opinion it was boring. Although very well played, the song itself did not interest me. I did not like the roadrunner, coyote essence of the song. The piano accompaniment would sometimes play the melody and let the clarinet follow and then they would switch. This to me seemed force instead of like the Sonatas that I listened to in class. However, apart from the musical aspect of the first piece there was a certain intensity expressed by the performers. I had never seen a
The production had many elements which for the most part formed a coalition to further the plot. The characters, the three part scenery and costumes represented well the period of time these people were going through. As far as the performers entering and exiting the stage, it could have been more organized. There were a few times when the performers exited at the wrong times or it seemed so due to the echo of the music. At certain moments the music was slightly loud and drowned the performers. Many of the songs dragged on, so the pacing could have been more effectively executed. Though the music was off at times, the director's decision to have most of the songs performed center sage was a wise one. Also the implementation of actual white characters that were competent in their roles came as a great surprise to the audience and heightened the realism.
The lights and the layout of the stage was phenomenal and worked amazingly with the way of the story, from the lights shining onto the band members in the basement to quickly shifting to the recording room where something completely different is occurring whether it's Ma arguing with the policeman or Dussie Mae portrayed by Nija Okoro snooping around the studio. The way the actors and actresses would resume back into their role when the lights shined on them I found extremely incredible. Scenes where everything was quiet and serious were consistent with the lightning of the stage and reaction of the crowd although there were interruptions by the audiences which did make some of the scenes awkward and not taken so serious due to the ruckus. The plot was able to capture the audience's attention really by incorporating different scenes in which the audience goes along with the sayings like the continuous of “1, 2, you know what to do” which the audience began to mimic it. The relieving scene of Sylvester finally being able to overcome his stutter really drew the attention of the audience and the frustrating scene where we find out that the recorder wasn't plugged in and everything would have to be redone does a wonder to gather our
The violins were plucking the stings and kept the beat. The video was awesome and had some war parts in it. The song was balanced and the instruments sounded like one instrument therefore they blended together. The audience seemed engaged because of the video in the background, they liked it a lot. The next band was Symphonic Orchestra and the first piece they played Dance of the Furies, from Orfeo by C.W. Gluck. The style of this piece was to the genre of the French opera. The piece started out very soft and gradually got louder very quickly. The fast sixteenth notes were in time. Also each instrument had a different part. The French horns played in time and kept the beat for a section of the song. The tone quality was equal. The intonation of the performers was awesome. The instruments blended together at some points. They also had great balance. The audience seemed to be engaged because of the great dynamic contrast. The next piece this band played was Variations on the theme by Tchaikovsky by A. Arensky. The style of this piece is Rococo. This piece starts out very soft. It had a happy and swift sound. The tone was very joyful and spring like. The instruments blended together and sounded like one instrument. They also balanced
In all, I think the choir concert went very well I thought that the performers did a great job and worked very hard to get where they are today.
This performance was similar to what I had expected in that it sounded jazzy and incorporated a wide range of colorful melodies to give an amazing performance. In addition, I expected it to be upbeat, and cheery with an upbeat swing beat to give it an overall loose and free feeling, which it did.
The Symphony Orchestra concert was preformed by The OU School of Music with Jonathan Shames as a conductor and they presented Sutton Concert Series. In addition, the Orchestra concert performed at Paul F. Sharp Concert Hall in October 12, 2015.There were like forty-one performers on the stage including the conductor using different types of instruments and and all of them were wearing a nice black clothes. The stage was a quite large with wooden floor and there were two floors for the audience with a comfortable seating. However, all the performers were on round shape and against the conductor.
The first part of the performance was a bit slow for me it was just normal tap dancing, but then it started to really pick up for me. It was like the performers found a way to combine contemporary dance, and tap dancing, and I really enjoyed this part. I could see the passion in the performers’ bodies and I believe they did a wonderful job displaying those emotions. Some of their movements were slow and gentle while others were rushed and powerful. The part with the skinny bald man in the turtleneck (a.k.a Mr.Turtleneck) was a bit awkward. I was really worried about Mr.Turtleneck when he fell on the ground. He was a very slender man and his fall sounded really bad, it sounded like he got the wind knocked out of him when he hit the
The setting is at the UNCG Dance center in the auditorium, it was small almost a private feel, with a stage and seats for an audience. These performances were called the spring dances which were performed, April 15, 2016. Even though it was called Spring Dances there were 5 performances with different names which different students performed.
The stage lighting was a cream white light and the background was just black. This cream white lighting on the dancers and black the background made the audience focus more of their attention on the dancers and nothing else. This dance performance didn't have no props or set during the show. The only thing that was on the stage was the dancers. The two dancers were both female and black. The dance performance was about black women this would mean the dancers will be a female and black to help the dancers to be similar to the message that the dancers trying to get across. The mood of the two dancers was pretty much a hopeful and content mood between of the dancers. It was pretty hard to figure out a mood between both of the dancer because their mood was pretty a normal mood and main focus was on the dance movement and the music. The structure of the dance movement in the dance performance still? was pretty much variations and theme. The two dancers did variations dance movements during the performance. I also say some of the dance movements was related to the theme of dance performance because as the music was talking about black women beauty the two dancers were covering up their faces as if they were shame or trying hide their
This was not like any other performance I have attended, since the variety of instruments contained a large portion of which I have never seen before. These consisted of, the Timpani, xylophone, cymbals, triangle,
