“The first essential requirement for nociception is the presence of sensory receptors, which first develop in the perioral area at approximately 7 weeks gestation and are diffusely located throughout the body by 14 weeks” (Meyers 241). Nociceptors are sensory receptors in the body that respond to stimuli that is in the form of pain. This means that an unborn child is in fact capable of comprehending and feeling pain. Abortions are commonly performed into the 14 week mark and sometimes even into the late 20’s. The malpractice of abortion should be outlawed for many reasons. Abortions are wrong morally for many people. People of religious faith generally are against it. According to a survey conducted on January 16, 2013, Pew Research states, “American Baptist, Catholicism, The church of The Latter Day Saints, Episcopal Church and Hinduism are the major religions that are one-hundred percent against abortion” (Pew Research). Of the religions above Catholicism is number one and Hinduism is number three, “Christianity has over twenty-one billion followers and Hinduism has eight hundred and fifty-one million people” (Info Please), meaning almost two point two billion people between those two religions are against abortion. Canada just recently allowed to have abortions, “then our Supreme Court threw it out completly in 1988” (Pro Choice Action Network). Most people don’t like how irresponsible abortions are, you participated in sex therefore you should have to handle all the responsibilities. More people today are Pro Life, “Fifty percent of Americans now call themselves ‘Pro Life’” (Saad). “With exception to rape, abortion is illegal in almost half the countries world-wide” (Pregnant Pause). “The Pro Choice side is down from 47% to 4... ... middle of paper ... ...take, “Nearly 160,000 children live in foster care or with relatives other than their parents” (Boonstra). As you can see, precious life doesn’t have to be wasted. In Closing, abortion needs to be reversed and made illegal with the upmost urgency. Approximately 55,772,015 young and promising lives were unjustly ended between now and 1973. These young lives were on the path to flourishing into beautiful people and now because of America’s abortion laws, never got to even see the light of day. If you think you are responsible enough to have sex then you better realize and comprehend the responsibility that comes with it. Simply understand that you are engaging in the act of creating new life. So if by “accident” you get pregnant, don’t just go and kill a helpless and innocent human being, get over your selfish self and own up to your new responsibilities as a parent.
