Luis was born on June 13, 1911, in San Francisco, California. When he was 15, his family moved to Rochester, Minnesota. He graduated from Rochester high school, then started a Bachelor of science courses. A few years later he was intending to major in chemistry. Later on he continued as a graduated student in Chicago.
