Nutrition Losing weight takes more than just desire it also takes commitment and a well-thought-out plan. Deciding to lose weight, changing your lifestyle, and becoming healthier are the first big steps. You must be cleared as to what you want to get out of this lifestyle. Do you want to live a longer healthier life? If your family has a history of diseases, is your goal to lower the risk of developing the diseases? Will losing weight make you feel better about yourself and have a more positive outlook on life? These are things that a person wanting to lose weight should ask themselves. A basketball player's body weight, whether female or male, "can influence their speed, endurance, and power while their body composition can affect an athlete's strength, agility, and appearance (Rodriguez & DiMarco & Langley, 2009)." Excess adipose tissue acts as dead weight in activities and in our basketball player she is carrying 16 lbs. of dead weight that is keeping her from performing at her optimum performance. "To better monitor the training and diet programs of a basketball player, it must be first understood the components of the physique and body of them (Gerodimos, 2005)." From what we know is that centers have the highest proportional body mass compared to other positions whereas guards had lower body mass related to their height. The results from the research suggest that the "body composition characteristics in basketball may be specific to the position of the player on the court (Gerodimos, 2005)."
