With effective time management, I discovered many ways in which I can be successful with the management of my time and able to adjust my schedules and to lower time stress. For example, I took time to check my everyday activity and where do I spend most of my time. By careful evaluation, I realize I spent my time browsing the internet which often focus on some of the unproductive things. I started making my time productive by active focusing on important goals which included fitness, scheduling important work to less important tasks every day and slowly I effectively organized myself.
Time management can be defining as the ability to spend time effectively or productively to complete the goals. Unfortunately this is one of my weaknesses due to I lack of effective personal time management especially when I busy doing my work. I can spend at least 8-10 hours sitting in front of computer doing work without taking a break. I think that taking a break would waste my valuable time and reduce my productive time. But in facts, taking regular small breaks actually can help us boost energy to move further. In addition, it actually makes us more productive and also has a lot of benefits to our health.
Disconnecting and Reconnecting Do we really need time for ourselves? Many people all over the world question themselves if they need a break from work, daily activities, stress, and school. PMBOK guide defines TM as the “Use of available time and your own productivity along with the appropriate planning and management of the project schedule” highlighting the link between Time Management and productivity and its closely knit relationship to scope and cost areas. Max Wideman presents a wider definition for TM as the “function required to maintain appropriate allocation of time to the overall conduct of the project through the successive stages of its natural life-cycle, by means of the processes of time planning, time estimating, time scheduling, and schedule control.” Ultimately at it’s core however, TM is about time, its planning and control during all stages of the project. A further look into Wideman’s definition of TM by means of identifying its importance throughout the entire project life-cycle (Initiation, planning, execution, controlling and close-out) is required. It is hoped that by analysing how TM tools and techniques can positively and negatively effect the different stages of the Project life cycle a better understanding of productivity, TM and project success will result.

I often ask myself “what is time?” I come back with the same answer whenever I think about it. Time is our most valuable commodity. More valuable than anything that we my own or have. It can’t be bought. Time is constantly moving. Once it passes, it’s gone, never to be repeated. We can’t go back and redo anything we have done. Time management is not a new idea and many methods have been proposed regarding the best way to handle time management issues for business students. These suggestions can often be quite simple, such as writing down lists of things to do in order to support people in making good use of their time for work or recreational purposes. When time pressures are high, planning tasks and actions does not always lead to the completion of the work. It is in recognition of this that time management training programs have been designed, aiming to give an insight into the time required for activities, ways to make time plans, and increasing the efficiency of people by teaching them how to plan properly, how to prioritize tasks, and how to handle unexpected tasks. This is increasingly easy, particularly for students, as “books, articles, and time management training programs that were initially developed for managers have been made available to everyone”.(Claessens, Brigitte J.C. 2004).
