Ortega 5One of the many reasons that young adults are recoiling away from going to college, isbecause they are interested in subjects such as liberal arts. Liberal arts degrees are seendifferently from degrees such as math and Science, many people believe this to be a waste, asmany jobs do not require people to have a liberal arts degree yet this field of study is a huge helpin social aspects of work. A liberal arts degree can develop critical thinking and problem solvingskills, as well as going into teachings of philosophy which can strengthen social skill and overallmaking a young adult a more suitable candidate for a job application. (Pew Research Center)“A key reason why a degree remains a relatively valuable asset despite rising tuition isthat the wages of those Americans without a degree have been falling…” (Karageorge) says theBureau of Labor Statistics. Even though the wages of college graduates might be falling, thewages of those who only have high school education are dropping even faster. Overall with astudent’s superior wage due to their college degree, they will be able to pay of their tuition andprofit from it in the long run. Some entrepreneurs have been saying that going to college is a waste and haveencouraged many students to drop out of college. Peter Thiel who is the co-founder of PayPalmade a contest in which he will pay twenty four students 100,000 dollars to drop out of college. This has encouraged many students that are already in college to re think of their lives asstudents. Although many of the world’s richest people have never had college education, doesn’tmean that we should encourage students to drop out of college. The main goal for this was forthe student winners to have a more time to work on their ideas, yet under the right time scale andmotivation they could have still worked on their projects and still further
Many students who are enrolled in FFA are already heading in the right direction to a bright future. FFA has many career benefits within the program. Any of the career development events (CDE’s) have something that will tie to a career in agriculture or to a career of other sorts. According to the National FFA Organization, “FFA members embrace concepts taught in agricultural science classrooms nationwide, build valuable skills through hands-on experiential learning and each year demonstrate their proficiency in competitions based on real-world agricultural skills”(“Statistics”). There are so many careers that tie into FFA, and many of them have to do with agriculture. Not every career that has to do with agriculture is about farming. There are so many different aspects of the agriculture industry that many people never think twice about. Most people are not interested in agriculture because they think it is just about farming or
The definition of grit is simple; it means being passionate about long term goals, and showing stamina to pursue them, but should students in public schools have a class dedicated to a grit-focused curriculum? This has become a major topic of discussion among teachers and mentors. Angela Duckworth, a professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, claims grit is not a fixed quality but one that can be developed. Many disagree with her statement. Grit is something everyone all have within themselves, but some just do not utilize this characteristic as often or as well as others. Grit is a puzzling concept. Duckworth has had an obsession with grit for over a decade. Her obsession started when she visited West Point,
Not everyone has to have a diploma to prosper. And you would be right; Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, and Stacey Ferreira are just a few of the many successful people without a college degree. Consider this, the top 1 percent of wage earners in the U.S. earn almost $500,000 per year. The odds of anyone making it to the top are low, even with a college degree, but the odds are better than those with no college education. Of those with college degrees, roughly eight in 1,000 make it into the upper field of income earners. For those without a college degree, the odds drop as low as three out of 1,000. While that may seem unrealistic, on average people with a bachelor’s degree or higher earn about $20,000 more a year than those without a
Have you ever felt stuck? Wherever you are, it’s the absolute last place you want to be. In the book Into the Wild, Chris McCandless feels stuck just like the average everyday person may feel. Chris finds his escape plan to the situation and feels he will free himself by going off to the wild. I agree with the author that Chris McCandless wasn’t a crazy person, a sociopath, or an outcast because he got along with many people very well, but he did seem somewhat incompetent, even though he survived for quite some time.
People with a college degree tend to make more money than those who didn’t attend college. This is because most of the jobs that have a higher earning require a college degree. People that only get their school diploma don’t make as much money as someone with a college degree. A study done suggest that people who have a college degree are more likely to get hired because they have an education compared to those who don’t. According to the United States Bureau people who achieved the current degrees earned the following median salaries. People with a doctorate degree earn $100,000 or more. With a bachelor’s degree people earn $58,000 and people with an associates earn $42,000 or more(Lucier). A High School diploma is not worth as much as a college degree. A High school diploma means less today because of the shaping of the world. People who only have a high school diploma earn only about $33,000. These numbers also depend on the type of field that you are going into. For example, people that have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or management will earn a little bit more (Lynn). They will earn more because these fields are really important. In my opinion the United States has been transformed

In 1965, the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) was signed by President Lyndon Baines Johnson. This law served as an opportunity to students of low-income by providing them with grants for textbooks and library books, special education centers, scholarships for university students, and grants to improve the quality of elementary and secondary education. However, in 2002, the ESEA law was reauthorized and was signed into law by President George W. Bush and renamed it: No Child Left Behind Act (“Elementary & Secondary Education Act”). The purpose of the No Child Left behind Act is to provide all students with an equal opportunity to obtain a high-quality education so that achievement gaps will no longer exist.

What makes a good person good? According to WikiHow, "We should learn to define our own morals ourselves. One of the simplest ways to do so is to love others, and treat them as you would like to be treated. Try to think of others before yourself. Even doing small things daily will greatly enrich and improve your life, and the lives of others around you." This quote shows us what we need to do in order to be what society thinks as, “good". In order to be a good person, you have to do good and moral things in your society consistently. However people might think that by doing one good thing once in a while will automatically make you a “good person”, but in reality it doesn’t.
Amongst the most common forms of standardized tests both, the Scholastic Aptitude test ( commonly known as the SAT) and the American college test or the ACT are standardized tests that have been used nationwide to test a student’s academic skills which ultimately serve as a ticket to being admitted into universities. The SAT and ACT are not just tests that measure the skills and knowledge retained in the year prior to the test. In fact the tests are based on cumulative knowledge. The test are normally taken during the summer after a student has completed eleventh grade and each students is expected to perform based on the information obtained from the years prior or even after ( 9th, 10th, ,and maybe in the beginning of 12th grade) . The test are used to measure a student’s ability to learn, retain and apply critical thinking, verbal and written skills.
Stress fractures occur when repeated pounding on a tendon or ligament attachment, overloads their ability to adapt. Studies suggest tension is worse than pounding, which is why shin splints can end up progressing to fractures. (Lovett 2). Although running has its risks running, distance running also has many benefits to it as well.
While some students and their parents may argue for whether college is beneficial economically, a college education benefits people in other areas of life as well such as getting a job and living on their own. Some may argue that students should go straight to work or that college isn’t even worth the cost. However, colleges and universities prepare students for more than just the workforce and are definitely worth the money, no matter which field you pursue. Colleges help develop certain skills that will be useful later in life when they must do things on their own such as buying groceries or setting up a schedule to stay on task. In Source B, Roth explains that liberal arts education results in “focus and flexibility”, and also “emphasizes freedom and experimentation”.
Is the ACT test able to correctly determine a person’s intelligence based on their score? Most colleges believe that it does being that a student’s high ACT score greatly increases their possibility of being accepted into a certain college. While in fact, there is no evidence proving that the test actually deems intelligence. Although there is no evidence, it has been instilled in the minds of high school students that they must get a high ACT score to be successful in college. This is incredibly false.
You may think I only run to stay in shape, but to me running is a lifestyle that happens to come with benefits. I solemnly believe we were all born to run. Running traces all the way back to caveman times where scientists believe they ran down their food. “Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up, it knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up.
Breath after breath, stride after stride, running can act as a release. Although there are so many benefits, the popular attitude towards running seems to be negative. Being a college student, I understand that getting out of your dorm and running instead of taking a nap can be undesirable, but after hearing all the benefits you may want to reconsider your opinion. I am a runner, but not your typical track star. I can relate to thinking that running is only for people who are good at it
