It is often said that some people are born leaders. However, I believe that my leadership skills have not necessarily been innate, but one that I have gradually learned and developed. My first lessons on leadership were taken during my childhood days. I grew up observing my best friend’s mother effortlessly multi task her role of a CEO, a wife, a daughter-in-law and a mother - with a smile that ceased to leave her face and a personality that earned respect. I looked for nuances that set her apart and in the process, I learned many valuable lessons. These childhood notes came in handy during the course of my personal, academic and professional life. Born as the elder of the two daughters to a single father, responsibility became second nature to me. I worked hard academically, led many group assignments during my post graduation studies in travel and tourism, received a scholarship and eventually took charge of the family business at a young age. I faced many personal setbacks during this course, but eventually discovered ways to overcome them. My career as a travel professional had only just begun when I realized that working for the environment was in fact a natural calling that I was destined to follow. I took what many considered to be a professional risk, but it paid off eventually and I was offered the position of Project Manager at Mountain Cleaners, an NGO working for a cleaner India. This has been one of the best decisions of my life, but also one where my true leadership skills were put to test. Soon after joining the organization, the founder and I decided to scale our operations and a fully funded project in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand was in the pipeline. However, in a trice the challenges of worki... ... middle of paper ... ...ble to my needs as it not only offers valuable knowledge in my chosen field of interest, but will also help me sharpen my management and leadership skills and improve my capacity as a social entrepreneur in the field of environment. Learning a new language is more satisfying when you have the chance to practice it. Therefore, I am also looking forward to learning German and intend to start my practise from India itself. After working non-stop for seven years, I value academics a lot more today than I did as a student. The biggest motivation for my application is a genuine interest to learn the studies offered by TU Bergakademie Freiberg. I like taking initiatives and foresee myself as a pro-active student, prepared to ask questions and also put in the hard work necessary, not just to excel in academic, but to make the most of what is offered by the program.
Something that I can truly attest to is that people are not born with these leadership qualities, they must be inspired. Inspiration is a positive influence to the mind or soul of a person that usually comes from the people around them. People can be inspired by teachers, family members, friends and even strangers. My inspiration comes from my family members and my CNA instructor because their urge and passion for education has lead to their success. Deriving from a family of nurses, professors, principals and business women, I have nothing but all the motivation I need to succeed. They want nothing but the best for me and that is why their lives and decisions have such an impact on my life.
Becoming a leader is never an easy task. It is complex with rational decision making and accepting responsibility for those decisions. Being the leader, does not mean that you always make the best choice, but it does mean you learn and grow from all you experiences. Sometimes becoming a leader is not a choice, but a responsibility that you inherit. Leaders are not born, but are created through trial and error. A true leader cares for his subordinate and will always respect, listen, and mentor them, but a true leader will also discipline correct subordinates when needed. Sometimes a leader needs to depend on his faith and look to a higher power, so that he can make choices with guidance.
Not everyone is born to be a natural leader; some may find it difficult to make decisions for others. Being a leader is a lot of responsibility, and not everyone can handle the job. This is why, both inside and out of school, I have practiced leadership skills to prepare for my future. Over the summer of my junior year, I attended the National Youth Leadership camp. It was held at the ASU Polytechnic campus, and educated the participants on how to become good leaders. During this event, I was able to test my skills as a leader and learn ways to become a better
I will explore my Leadership Philosophy and give my Definition of Leadership - Leadership is the ability to get members from diverse groups to willingly follow your vision to achieve a specific goal. Leadership experiences throughout my career have been both positive and negative. While I have had numerous influences, my most memorable were negative experiences from my first Master Chief as a non-rate to my Executive Officer as Petty Officer First Class. The traits most prevalent in both were temperamental, uncooperative, and abrasive. Conversely, positive influences in my career showed trust and empowerment, making for a positive work environment.
In my future career journey within the next 1-2 years I see myself managing a venue, and traveling for my current job. Managing a venue will give me the insight of running a business in a deeper depth. By knowing the right steps, I believe it’s possible for much success, such as time management, problem solving, networking, analyzing, and researching. Also, with traveling that would show me how much closer my dreams are coming to path. Traveling will enhance my visions in networking in so many depths and enlighten my knowledge of different cultures.
Some may argue that great leaders are born and not made. While there are, some “born leaders,” many who have never envisioned themselves as leaders have successfully honed in on their leadership skills through personal reflection and extensive practice. Effective leadership requires more than just delegating assignments and tasks. It is not just a title given to just anyone that wants it. It requires vision, collaboration,
Out of all my previous work experience, my time spent at Fortinos has been most effective in building trust amongst my team members and leading by example. While working in a fast paced environment with many duties, it was very important to me to establish myself as a trustworthy person. I accomplished this by going above and beyond in my duties, therefore proving I could be counted on to perform tasks efficiently and with a high degree of performance. I also built trust amongst my coworkers by having conversations with them outside of work, and getting to know them all very well. The trust I built with my team was helpful because my coworkers knew I could be relied on in times of need, whether it be taking over a shift, or completing
Contrary to popular belief, being an effective leader is an art that could be learned. From what the media has conditioned me to believe, I never thought that I was able to become a leader since I did not consider myself as being an assertive, charismatic, or a creative leader. Although there are people who encompass these qualities, depending on the environment and context of the situation, individuals who do not consider themselves as a traditional leader unknowingly carry leadership characteristics. From my experience, I have noticed that I can create a positive environment for everyone to work together during stressful times. The principles that I follow which influence my leadership activity are being emotionally intelligent, ethical and
1. What constitutes being an effective student leader and how do you demonstrate those characteristics?
Life gives unlimited opportunities. Recently I’ve been working on different projects in Demola community. This organization offers students a great opportunity to add some real-life twist into the conventional path towards a career. It means that students work in a project with a multidisciplinary team to solve real-life cases together with partner companies. I cognized three main things which are strongly connected with key points of Blue Ocean Strategy.
Leadership, that most critical of traits, one that does not come easily to everyone, and one which may be manifested in different styles and with different measures of success. And yet, many of us aspire to leadership roles, albeit for different reasons and with different outcomes. The notion that individuals fall neatly into specific behavioral styles and patterns and never deviate from them in one which is easily debunked. As a rising female business leader, I am still developing and honing my particular style with the mindset that different environments will necessitate modifications to my approach, and thus it will evolve over time and will change per the situational context, even as my dominant style will influence my behavior in many
When we work together in a team, or in a broader sense as a society, the leader takes on the most important role. It is the leader that helps prioritize activities and direct people’s thought process in the right direction. They are the ones who have the ability to bring the group together as a whole. Because of this, not anyone can be a leader. Only people with certain qualities and abilities are able to fill this role. So what makes a good leader? There is a defined path and specific characteristics that makes someone a good leader.
Leadership, without doubt, is a significantly important function of management. It helps to aggrandize efficiency and to fulfil an organization’s goals. Leadership is the ability of a manager to induce the subordinates to work with confidence, determination, courage and zeal. It is also defined as ability to influence a group towards the realization of a goal. Leaders should have the capability of developing future visions, and to drive the organizational members to want to attain the visions. This paper states my points in which I duly believe, justifies the importance of an outstanding leader in any organization.
One of the biggest problems for Americans right now is the direction in which our country is headed due to poor leadership from our government. This problem has been affecting the American people deeply over the last few years and is only going to get worse. The effects of this poor leadership are the the growing debt in our country, poor health care regulations causing high premiums and forcing punishments upon people who self pay, illegal immigrants at an all time high, not enough money spent for education, and terrorist groups causing fear to Americans. These problems have been caused by the recent politicians we have elected for not only president but all of the branches of government. The best solutions to fix these problems are electing new government officials and a new president that will make changes and fix the problems that need fixing. The other alternative solutions would be the American people taking action and making the government realize that we want change. These problems have to be addressed now because the longer they are put on hold the worse the problems could be become.
What is leadership? Leadership is defined as a process by which a individual will influence others to obtain goals. Leaders will guide, direct motivate, or inspire others. Leadership is defined by not only traits but actions as well. Leaders are inspirational, trustworthy and charismatic. Many people may think a manger is leader. Although leadership and management go hand in hand, they are not the same. Everyone has their own beliefs about what characteristics an effective leader should have. To me, communication skills, critical thinking skills, and having a vision are few characteristics of becoming an effective leader. A leader is not only born, but made. Some are born as leaders or some are made to be leaders.
