Lcpl Simpson Defense Mechanisms Examples

After serving five years in the millitary, my brothers and I have been through a fair amount of unpleasent

thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Luckily, there is a magnitude of defense mechanisms to help cope with any stress

or traumatic events. A defense mechanism is a manner in witch we behave or think to defend ourselfs. Theses

mechansisms are fairly unciouscious however, for a U.S. Marine its a part of every day life. My first example is Cpl. Barger who is constantly using the least benifical primitive defense mechanism

solutions and He thought that if he didnt show up then no one can tell him what do. There was litterally days where

no one knew where he was. Eventually he did get in trouble but none the less acting out doesnt solve anything but

potentially make things even worst.

My second example is repression. There are many times in the millitary where events will be so terrible

that you will litterally forget what happened. This was the case for Lcpl. Simpson. On a cloudy weekday the entire

platoon was in a line on a plane of grass. They were in line to get oc. sprayed and it is the worst pain you will

ever feel. For Lcpl Simpson the capsacium hit his face and immidiatly hated life. After two seconds his eyes swoled

up,turned red and tearing. He screamed from all of his pain and completed the obstacle course. However, if today

you were to ask him about that insane day he has little to know recolection of it. He recalls the motions for

example he knows he got sprayed he remembers the obstacle course but as for the pain, absolutly nothing. due to

this tragic event he repressed almost all of it
