Sexual context, Racism, sexism, religion, physical implements, mental disabilities, homophobia, paedophilia, suicide, nudity, death, swearing, cross generational relationship and abusive content are all issues of political correctness. However, this speech is addressing the issue of gun control, namely in the US, and whether or not it has been impinging on the rights of citizens, since the 1900s. Gun control particularly nowadays is becoming an issue due to recent advertisements such as the Las Vegas Ad. This ad was published on the 11th of October 2017 by a local gun range classically called Battlefield Vegas. The highlighted yellow stating ‘Only $29’ displays the importance of that particular line which is highlighted in a vibrant colour to entice the human eye. The green contrast used in the background symbolises a battlefield ground and makes the text and picture stand out. Furthermore, on the left hand side of the advertisement, the emblem used corresponds with the ‘welcome to Fabulous Las Vega’s’ sign. Similarly, the text itself is similar to the text used in the Vegas emblem. This indicates that the advertisement is using the famous welcome sign to make this commercial popular. This specific part uses the same font, layout and colour as Las Vegas’s landmark. In future, if these gun laws continue, then as mentioned on the ad ‘Welcome to Fabulous Battlefield Las Vegas’, Vegas might as well end up as a battlefield. The irony of the situation is that the word battlefield itself represent a field of death, blood, violence, brutality and dead bodies. The US flag Illustrated in the advertisement shows the patriotism of the country. However, at the same time it is showing that it’s mainly targeting US citizens to raise more awareness of the ineffective gun laws in America. The setting demonstrated in this ad, a school library, shows that they are not safe in any type of environment, even at school. This specific background targets parents to raise more awareness of how no child is safe in any type of environment. The sizes of the different captions used shows the importance of the sentence. “One child is holding something that’s been banned in America to protect them, guess which one.” Typically, the automatic response would be the gun, however, as you continue reading it says “we keep ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ out of schools because of the bottle of wine in her basket. Why not assault weapons?”. This statement uses irony and it finishes off with a rhetorical question, leaving the audience to ponder how ridiculously weak gun control is in the US. The colour of the text makes it stands out, especially when it says “guess which one.?” This particular line is coloured in red, indicating the colour of murder or violence in this case.
