The Mind of a Psychopath Being a senior in high school can be tough, but once you get used to the routine, it becomes normal. However, sSomething felt off this day for Tammy Kozinski. The school was not allowing travel, and it seemed more quiet than usual. Overhearing teachers mumble things to each other, she knew something was happening that was bigger than it seemed. Not a word of the incident was said to any of the students until she went into her sociology class. Her teacher could not bare to keep it from the kids any longer. “Well, students, things have been so weird here because there has been a mass school shooting.” No sugar coating, the teacher told the students. “Certainly being a highschool kid at that time was kind of …show more content…
They were probably depressed with mental issues and wanted to end it, so they figured why not take people out with them.” The best way to understand the massacre is to get passed all the stereotypes you hear of in high school. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris were both different. They didn’t see the world like most people do. They both had different motives and different issues that would lead them to commit this “mass murder” as they wanted it to be. Dylan was easier to understand, he was the more familiar type. He was a depressed and suicidal; it didn’t help that he was also very hot headed (Cullen). “There are better ways to get your feelings out there. I’m sure they were bullied, but a gun is not the answer.” He was a follower because he was hurting on the inside and needed guidance, but the person who was there for him was a complete psychopath. “He lives down in a ribcage in the dry leaves of a heart,” a quote from The Silence of the Lambs, by Thomas Harris, perfectly describes Eric Harris. It is now commonly accepted that Eric was a psychopath. Not the kind that is seen in Hollywood or on T.V. A psychopath is simply someone who feels no emotion for …show more content…
It wasn’t just another terrible thing that happened to adults. Gen Y even witnessed the Oklahoma Bombing, which was a completely different experience. It didn’t hit the young generation because it was off in some office building. The Columbine shooting was a huge impact on them because it felt so close to home(Setoodeh). Students didn’t truly know fear until this. Knowing that their fellow students could be full blown psychopaths was a scary thought. Any kid could get a gun, come to school and start another mass killing. Now there are procedures that make sure nothing like that can happen, but some kids can still slip
Two boys by the names of Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris walked into Columbine High School around 11:19 A.M. with 99 home-made explosives, a 9mm carbine, a pump shotgun, and a double barrel shotgun. As well as being accompanied by four knives. Both managed to murder thirteen innocent people in total, twelve students and one teacher.
Hysteria. Terror. Paranoia. All words used to describe feelings after a school disturbance. Reports of such emergencies from mainstream media outlets cause some to conclude extraordinary security breaches happen on an almost daily basis. However, schools are actually safeguarded; in recent years, protocols have been installed in schools across the United States to ensure safety. The catalyst: nationwide panic and suffering after an act of terror at a high school in Littleton, Colorado. Journalist and author Dave Cullen, in his book, Columbine, narrates the horror surrounding this shooting. Cullen’s purpose is to inform readers by captivating their attention utilizing emotional language. He establishes contrasting characters and alludes to significant
The article titled “At last we know why the Columbine killers did it” shows an in-depth look into the minds of Harris and Klebold. Cullen explained that people went on to believe one of two wrong conclusions about the Columbine shooters. One: they were taking revenge on the bullies or two: that the “massacre was inexplicable: we can never understand what drove them to such horrific violence” (At last we know, Cullen).
"In October 1997, a 16-year old in Pearl, Mississippi, first killed his mother and then went to school and shot nine students, two fatally; in December 1997 a 14-year old went to his school in West Paducah, Kentucky, killed three students and wounded five others; in March last year, two boys, aged eleven and thirteen, killed four girls and a teacher outside their school in Jonesboro, Arkansas; the next month a science teacher was shot dead, allegedly by a 14-year old, at a school dance in Edinsboro, Pennsylvania; last May in Fayetteville, Tennessee, an 18-year old student allegedly shot dead a classmate in the school car park; two days later, in Springfield, Oregon, a 15-year old opened fire at his high school, killing two teenagers and wounding more than twenty (police later found that his parents had been killed at home) ("Lesson"). On April 20th of this year, two teenagers enter their school and open fire, killing 12 students and one teacher before taking their own lives.

The columbine massacre is about two students named Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris both seniors 17 years old both two weeks before graduating they killed 12 students, one teacher, and 21 injured to their shooting on April 20, 1999. Both Dylan and Eric were some believe they were bullied by the sport teams in their school so they planned to kill the people who bullied them and other mostly anyone who gets in their way but that wasn’t really why the FBI he said that there target was everyone no one in pacify we will not get in to more details now. Dylan and Eric were both intelligent boys with solid parents and a good home and both had brothers younger than them. They played soccer, baseball, and both enjoyed to work on computers. Both boys were thinking on commit suicide on 1997 but instead started to plan a massacre in 1998 a year before it happened. Then the two boys had got into some trouble for breaking into a van on January 30, 1998 trying to steal some fuses and wires for bombs for them to make, but they got caught in trouble. So the court put them in a program called the juvenile diversion program, but even if they were there they were still planning the massacre and the court also put Eric in some angry management classes and people believe it worked but it didn’t he just did it to look like it work and both boys made it look like they were really sorry but they weren’t. Dylan and Eric both really hated everyone in their school and the court as well after they got caught breaking in to that van that’s when they really started to plan the massacre more and that’s when Harris started he’s journals no one really knows way but they didn’t hate a hand...
School shootings seemed like a new phenomenon, but they occurred for the majority of American history. The first school shooting occurred On July 26, 1764, when a Lenape Indian shot and killed nine children and the school master of the Greencastle, Pennsylvania school (Galvin): as noted in Appendix A. Since 1764, the number of school shootings rose exponentially. In the 1990’s, eighty-six school shootings occurred and between 2000 and 2014, 110 shootings transpired since 2000 (Killam,2008). The development of semiautomatic weapons lead to an increase in deaths. A study conducted in 1990 found through the years of 1986 to 1990; 71 people died, 201 wounded, and 242 people held hostage by school shooters(Galvin). While the area a school serves as one factor in the number of violent acts committed per year, school shootings have not been connected to this. The schools in Chicago dealt with more violent acts, but Sandy Hook Elementary, a small city school had relatively few violent acts committed by students.
Most people believe that everything happens for a reason, but on April 20, 1999 people began to question their beliefs. The crime that occurred on that horrific day was said to be the worst high school shooting in U.S history. 13 people were killed, one of them being a teacher, and more than 20 were injured. It wasn’t long before two more people were added to list of the deceased when the killers turned their guns and committed suicide.
The Columbine Shootings were one of the greatest tragedies that the nineties faced; and changed the world that was once known. The fault for this tragedy falls on popular culture, moral climate, and the parents of the shooters; not the shooters themselves. Society has greatly affected the minds of the youth, and viewing violence on television, video games, and on the internet, has planted a negative seed of thought in their minds.
On the morning of October 3, four people were shot within a span of approximately 2 hours in Aspen Hill, and other nearby areas in Montgomery County. Another was killed that evening in the District of Columbia, just over the border of Silver Spring. In each shooting, the victims were killed by a single bullet fired from some distance. The pattern was not detected until after the shootings occurred on October 3. Fear quickly spread throughout the community as news of the shootings circulated. Many parents went to pick up their children at school early, not allowing them to take a school bus or walk home alone. Montgomery County and District of Columbia schools declared a lockdown, wit...
Today was the day; the hardest day of any teenagers life. Holly-241 fidgeted anxiously with the hem of her black school skirt, stomach churning at the thought of what lay just inside the auditorium doors. Professor Marx-93 stood on the front step of the auditorium, trying, unsuccessfully, to hush the loud buzz of student murmurs.
A seemingly normal school day in Newtown, Connecticut, who knew that it would turn into one of the most devastating days of they would ever experience. About 2 years ago, students at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut were involved in the most devastating event of the year. According to an article by the Huffington Post, a mentally troubled man in his twenties named Adam Lanza shot 20 children and six staff members, with his mother’s weapons. His mother had apparently grown up with guns and thought it would be good to have in their house. Prior to driving to the school, he even shot his mother, but his motive is unknown. He drove to the school leaving a 12-gauge shotgun in the car, walking towards the school, he shot through the front entrance. “Lanza moved toward two classrooms of kindergartners and first-graders,” police said. Within five minutes he managed to kill 20 students ages 6 and 7 and six adults. He had fired more than 150 shots from a .223-caliber Bushmaster rifle. When police started to arrive he shot himself in the head, taking his own life. This incident was the deadliest mass shooting at a grade school in the US; in total 26 lives were lost.
No one can really give a definite answer for why school shootings actually occur. We look for clues and patterns to help to look inside the mind of those who do go into schools to kill others. First let us look at the Columbine shooting. The two reasons that were most believed in why Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed thirteen students and their own were because they were bullied and wanted to get back at the guys who hurt them throughout high school. The other reason was we would never know. It was just a freak thing that could not be explained. The two killers wanted to be legends. They wanted to cause the most deaths in American History. They did wire the bomb properly so they were not able to kill as many people as they had planned. The bomb in the cafeteria would have killed at least six hundred people. The survivors were supposed...
Over the past twenty years, there have been at least three major school shootings that hit the media. The most recent school shooting that caught the media’s attention was located in Newtown, Connecticut. A young man by the name of Adam Lanza, walked into Sandy Hook elementary and walked through the hallways and classrooms with an AR-15 and multiple glocks to massacring innocent young, children and teachers. Before showing up to the school, he walked into his mother’s room and shot her in the head four times. Lanza killed twenty children and also killed six teachers. After killing the most people, he thought that he could, he took a fatal shot to the head that he caused by himself. The second most recent school shooting that was all over the media was in April of 2007. This shooting took place at Virginia technical institute. A senior, Seung-Hui Cho, walked onto campus with sinister intentions. His target wasn’t a single person or a single group, it was everyone in his sight. Cho killed thirty-two people and seventeen others. Five of those victims were professors while the other twenty-seven were students. After killing these hardworking civilians, Cho committed suicide. This was the deadliest attack in the United states by a single gunman. The biggest school shooting to hit the media was the Columbine High school Massacre. Unlike the last two school shootings, there were two shooters by the names of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. Two high school Seniors. They walked into the high school, located in Columbine, Colorado, and opened fire at everyone in their way. They ended up killing twelve students and one teacher along with injuring twenty-one additional people. When this hit the news, it was devastating and unheard of. No one has seen such a terrible act like this before. All these terrible crimes have to do with gun control and the problems with it in our
Schools have been a poplar location for mass shootings. The number of security has increased in the past century. Public and Private schools installed more cameras around the area. Students must go through metal detectors every day before going to class. Schools are conducting a high number of active shooter drills throughout the year. Mass shootings happen in private or public places,
According to Scott Anderson interview with Greg Ousley, the reason why young people commit crimes is because the environment that they live in. “I had been thinking about killing them every time I get mad,” he told his interrogator. “They don’t seem to understand me.” Indicative of either his youth or his mental state at that moment, Greg made a forlorn request of the detective: “Please don’t tell my family” (Anderson). Today teenagers are being abuse from their parents and are living in a negative homes and hanging out with misleading friends. The author of this article gives the main issue of the massacre which is his youth and mental anger issues. This states that the main problem is the lifestyle with his parents. Likewise in the article “Kids are Kids-Until They Commit Crimes” have a similarity about why their growth are not fully mature. It is a vexing question these days for under-eighteen crowd, the group we routinely write off as “only kids.” It’s why they can’t smoke, or drink, or go to R Movies without our OK. It’s is why they don’t vote. It’s why they have curfews. It’s why we fret over their Internet access and fuss about driving privileges” (Lunderstorm 45). Teenagers have restrictions about what they should not do every day in their lives. With this mindset, teenager have no other way, but to commit crimes to satisfy their needs and wants life. The reason why is since teenagers do not understand that they are committing crimes is because of their deficiency on thinking about the consequences and their actions. The reality is that juveniles are unintelligible on the decisions they
