Most people believe that everything happens for a reason, but on April 20, 1999 people began to question their beliefs. The crime that occurred on that horrific day was said to be the worst high school shooting in U.S history. 13 people were killed, one of them being a teacher, and more than 20 were injured. It wasn’t long before two more people were added to list of the deceased when the killers turned their guns and committed suicide. The Columbine high school, located in Littleton, Colorado, never expected that two of their older students would turn against them and commit such a crime. Eric Harris, 18, and Dylan Klebold, 17, were “social outcasts” and were fascinated by Goth culture and violent video games. The major question that has been spinning in everyone’s mind since that day is, “Did the video games and media influence them to kill, or did they have a mental illness; born as murders?” Dylan Klebold was born on September 11, 1981, in Lakewood, Colorado. He was the child of upper middle class parents. His father was a geophysicist and his mother worked with the disabled. The Klebolds attended a Lutheranism church but also observed some Russian Jewish rituals, as Klebold's maternal grandfather believed in the religion. His father also had a successful mortgage business and the fact that his parents were who they were, so intelligent and well rounded, made everyone shocked to why their son turned out to be a “mass murder”. He was very intelligent and was in a program for the gifted students during his elementary years in school. He was said to be a shy child and loved basketball. All his traits as a child also make everyone wonder about his actions, and begin to really look back to the question. The video ended with them threatening to kill anyone that messed with their client. The boys also wrote violent stories for their creative writing class and continued to make videos that discussed their motives for their future plans. Before the Massacre, they recorded a video in which they said goodbye to their parents and made a verbal will. A few days before the shooting the school had a prom in which Dylan took Robyn Anderson as his date. While the boys were currently 17 and 16, the illegal age to purchase a firearm in Colorado, Robyn was 18, the legal age. They told her to buy the guns for them, deceiving her and saying it was meant for hunting deer. She bought them three guns and the fourth gun was giving to them by their co-worker, Mark Manes.
