Principles are personal, fundamental truths that make sense to an individual, becoming the driving force that their actions and decisions are based on. These personal standards are ever evolving as we learn and grow, making our way through life until we find absolute happiness. Key principles that I instill into my everyday life are: Be kind to all living things, don’t judge what you don’t understand, always be open to new opportunities and viewpoints, nothing is impossible unless you don’t try, and always do what makes you happy. These ideals define who I am and what is utmost important to me in my life. Detesting the profession I had chosen and my personal relationships suffered. Misery became my life. This happened because I tried to live by someone else’s rules instead of my own. Sure, everyone fantasizes about living in that immense, stunning house on the hill. Owing those beautiful shiny new cars in the garage. Having all the latest technical gadgets. Will having those things truly bring you contentment? For some, possibly. Are those vast beautiful houses filled with laughter and happiness? Perhaps they are, but what personal price had to be paid to acquire ownership of those things? Did the people that have those possessions give up their fundamental life values? If so, the price was too high. Through trial and error, we each develop our own set of personal values as we discover what truly makes us feel satisfied in life. When we finally figure this out, it becomes very obvious, very quickly when we have deviated from them by how our choices honestly make us feel. I presume that this is the most challenging part for some, since it means that you must really look inside yourself and at the life you are living and decide if you are living in a particular way because it makes you happy, because it makes someone else happy, or because society says that it’s the way you should be
