In this essay I will use ethical framework such as Kantian deontology and Kantian ethical theory along with key principles to argue the reason for my decision whilst justifying my decision. As the manager, I will consider using Kant’s ethical principles to decide if I should accept the deal by the Thailand suppliers and if the decision is ethical taking into account the 3 maxims set by Kant. I will be taking the categorical imperative and Kant’s 3 principle formulations into account whilst making my decision. Categorical imperative does not rely on an outcome but allows us to make sense and justify our actions. An imperative is something that we must do and is the basis for a moral decision. So if I was not to consider the children or the environment of the workers then I would in fact be, in Kant’s view, undermining the principles of what it is to be human which are reason, freedom and intent. If I was to accept the current deal then the factory workers would continue to work in unsatisfactory conditions and as a result of accepting this deal, other companies would also start to adopt these sort of deals as it is cheaper than other suppliers. If I was to imagine my nieces in the same condition as the children in the workshop, then I would not be comfortable with it as I want them to have a good education and have all the basic needs. If everyone in the world worked for 14 hours a day from the age of 5 and no one attended school then no one would ever learn anything and would not be able to start their own company or have the knowledge to be a products manager.
