There are many great benefits to playing school sports. Some main benefit topics I am going to discuss are Health Benefits, Social Benefits, and Emotional Benefits. First is the Health Benefits you get from participating in a high school sport, like eating healthy. You may say that’s not true, but most dedicated young athletes are likely to “consume more fruits and vegetables”(Taliaferro, 2010). Along with eating healthy to keep up with the team, these sports “encourage healthy decisions such as not smoking or drinking”. Being a part of a team you become close to your teammates which “boosts friendships, and builds relationships with peers and adults”(Mariana Jean Shile, 2013).
The Social Benefits are also a reason kids should play sports in high school. Creating friendships and bonds are very important in growing up, “Sports bring teens together from different schools, backgrounds, and communities.” says Katie Howard a high school writer. It’s said the girls have remarkable Social Benefits like having “more confidence” which will attract more positive people into their lives and “The vast majority avoid depression and suicide”(Anderson, 2012). Boys and girls are said to have “noticeably positive reactions and behavior”(Benefits of School Based Sports, 2013) from participating in a school-based sport no matter what sport it is they choose to play.
Like Social Benefits there are Emotional Benefits. Playing in a game can get your adrenaline pumping, heart racing and nerves jumping in excitement and determination to defeat your opponent. PA (Physical Activity) can “increase self-esteem, and decrease anger”(Valos, 2004) and can make mandatory gym class not so bad. Exercise scientifically changes your mood, Endorphins rele...
