Junior Class President at County High

A scream echoed through the empty hallways of County High school as we heard the news. "How did that happen?" I thought to myself. This had to have been planned out previously by someone.

This event was the Student Government elections held last year, my sophomore year. I had big plans. I wanted to be the Junior Class president. Being Junior Class president is a big responsibility due to prom, concessions and other fund raisers, but I wanted the position anyway. I knew I could handle it. My mom gave me a great idea for a theme that I would carry throughout my posters, my speech and my clothing attire on Election Day. I researched pictures I could put on posters. I bought stickers to hand out to people on election day that went along with my theme, which was "Bees". This went along with my last name, too. An example of one of my posters was "Heard the buzz? Andrea is running for class president!"

My mood previous to Election Day ended up not as excited as I wanted it to be. Instead, it was nervous. You see, my best friend, Tiffani had decided to run against me. At the beginning of the campaign I was excited for her. "This is great," I thought. "She is getting involved in one of the biggest groups in our school." I immediately followed that thought with, "Even though she is going to lose, I am happy that she is trying." The idea that she would lose stuck with me most of the campaign season.

Other friends and I had talked a lot about the both of us running and not very many of us liked the idea of Tiffani running. We thought of her and irresponsible and closed-minded. During our sophomore year, Tiffani was absent a lot because she wanted to go shopping. She also didn't have a good time at homecoming our sophomore year beca...

...ay think that. The votes had to be perfectly cast. Tiffani and I asked people and some said they voted for me the first time and Tiffani the second or vice versa. If anyone had voted differently, the outcome would have been changed dramatically. What is crazy, though, is how my mind had never even conceived the idea that the votes would be tied. I was the one close-minded this time and just look at what happened!

Now, our Student Government activities are done together with pride. We are so happy that we both got in, and that we can talk freely about what we have to do or what we have already done. Because this was previously planned, we have the freedom to enjoy this year as a team and as friends instead of jealous peer. I owe all my thanks and the memories I will have of this year to Jesus because of the perfect plan he had, and still has, for Tiffani and me.
