Towards the beginning of this novel I felt there was just so much going on that it didn’t really catch my interest. Starting from the first chapter Jackson’s writing seemed very repetitive and held too many riddles that I couldn’t solve. But fast forwarding to the middle it became clear who the main characters were in the story; Mary Katherine Blackwood and her older sister Constance Blackwood.
Also, there are 2 main characters in the book are Ratchet (Rachel) and her dad Lamar Vance.
The main characters of the novel are Ralph and Jack, though Simon, Piggy, Roger or the littluns are a key part in the growth of the events. The development of the characters throughout the novel carries out the progress of the themes and motifs explored.

The main characters in the book are George and Lennie. In the beginning of the book, George and Lennie are traveling to their new job. When George says, “We’re gonna work on a ranch like the one we come from up north” you can get a sense of their friendship and how George stays loyal to Lennie and doesn’t leave no matter how many dead things he keeps in his pockets.
Characters in the novel also contribute to the understanding of the theme of loneliness. George Milton and Lennie Small are the two main characters in the novel. They are like two halves. “The first man was small and quick, dark of face, with restless eyes and sharp strong features.” George is the smaller of the two men but has taken care of Lennie for a while, since Lennie’s Aunt Clara died and this highlights the theme of friendship. He is the more knowledgeable one of the two. “You crazy son-of-a-bitch. You keep me in hot water all the time.” George gets a little irritated with Lennie at times but looks after him no matter what. Their friendship is solid has to watch over him at all times, as Lennie is incapable of looking after himself and is one of the many characters who doesn’t change at all through the novel.
