John Hope Franklin has written multiple works with the topic about racism and has become a historian through the events and time in the nation as he saw discrimination. He examine, explains, and illustrates the life of the African American people in the most real and honest manner, through his work The Train from Hate, he showed the struggle of the black people against oppression and segregation. Franklin’s purpose was to make sure that the readers were aware of the struggle that African Americans faced, the problems they passed through just to gain respect, freedom, and equality. Even when many of these actions become unnoticed, doesn’t mean that their contribution becomes less significant. A proven example of this is the courageous insight shared by a mother to her son that guided her child on doing great things and becoming an inspiration and a way of freedom to all African American people. The young boy who experienced discrimination on the train to Tulsa became Doctor John Hope Franklin PhD. who is a renowned educator, historian, author, and civil rights activist (Wall 784). He attained the Presidential Medal of Freedom award in 1995 for his outstanding accomplishments (Lasch-Quinn 108). Franklin also led the start for more historians to study the African American culture seriously. According to William Chafe, a historian in Duke University, “For decades, blacks were marginalized in American history books…but From Slavery to Freedom inspired many historians to begin to set the record straight” (North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame, par. 3). A way for the world to see the discrimination and inequality the black people has faced through the years or for freedom to be brought to light. The Franklin Foundation found by John Hope Franklin, continued its mission and vision in life to teach their students to become “law-abiding, hard-working, highly respected, and self-respecting loyal citizens” (Franklin). Peace, caring, and nonviolent belief can build the base foundation for change and development. Many had this stand and was considered as a hero. John Hope Franklin’s mother is no doubt a hero in the movement towards equality and freedom. Because of her positive action, knowledge, and dignity when she remained in her ground and taught the most valuable lesson not just to his son but also to the world. That lesson which was marked to his son’s mind and was turned into action when he became a man helped the world become a better place. Franklin’s work through his mother’s words inspired a lot of people, saved more lives, and helped the world to change. Today, black people can now achieve the American dream. The United States of America even had a black president, Barack Obama, who also thanked and explained that John Hope Franklin was an inspiration and have influenced a lot of people (North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame). John Hope Franklin absolutely introduced a powerful work that was evident to affect history and gave awareness to all people in the world about inequality.
