Recommended: Importance of parables of Jesus

Jesus was famous for telling parables. Throughout his life on earth he told more than forty of them. A parable by definition is a short allegorical story designed to illustrate or teach some truth, religious principle, or moral lesson. (Harper) When you hear the story, you can relate it to your own life. It is like an illustration for the points in a sermon. It conveys its message of truth through analogy, through comparison or contrast. Jesus spoke to the people in this manner for a few distinct reasons.
Parables are told to reveal the truths about the kingdom of God. To be revealed in a manner in which only those who truly care will come to know. By doing so Jesus was able to separate the audience into two groups, the righteous and the wicked. The wicked would take the story at face value; never truly caring to search for the truth or understand the true meaning behind the parable. The righteous may not have understood what was being said but because they truly cared they stuck around to ask what Jesus meant and to have the meaning explained to them.

In Matthew chapter thirteen verse ten the disciples came to Jesus and asked “why do you speak to the people in parables?” Jesus replied in verse eleven stating “the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. This is why I speak to them in parables: ‘Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people’s heart h...

...d kingdom the gospel promises. Jesus’ statement is stating that whatever you get out of the gospel, that what you will receive in the coming of the new age.
Parables are told to make a point. Parables are drawn from nature or everyday life to tease the imagination, challenge accepted values, or illustrate a point. They answer a question; deal with a problem, etc. Speaking in parables allowed Jesus to give to the people the answers in which they were looking for but in a way so that only the righteous would understand and be able to learn from. Jesus wants us to seek his truth whole heartedly. The point for us is that our ability to hear and believe is based more upon our hearts than our hearing. It has to do more with what we're seeking than in the flair of what is being said. Jesus' words are a great reminder of how important words are, especially his words.

Basically Jesus Christ was the teacher and the whole world would be considered as the students.
