The Name Game Essay Everybody in the world has a name and no two names are exactly alike. Tons of people go by nicknames, my nickname growing up was Jake. In high school, my nickname was better known as Wake n Bake Jake for a couple reasons; But this paper isn’t over my nicknames it’s over my real name Jakob David Hall. My first name Jakob is unique and different because everybody I’ve met with the same first name spells it with a “c” instead of “k”. I like my first name because Jacob is a very common name. My name throws people off spelling it with a “k” because its pronunciation is the same both ways. Also, my mom named me after Jacob, who was Isaacs’s son in the Old Testament and the father of the twelve founders of the twelve tribes of Israel. The initial J in my name stands for John. My mother named me after my grandpa because she has always looked up to her father as a positive role model. If I would’ve been a girl my first name would have been Brenna because that was my mom’s favorite aunt. I’m very thankful I was a boy because I like the name Jakob way better than Brenna. The surname of my last name stood for a topographical name for someone who lived at or near a large house called a Hall back in the day. Throughout the centuries, my original surname has had many variations like “halla” and “heal” but my family has always stayed with the original surname Hall. Back in the 1800’s, farmer, laborer, and keeping house was the three most commonly reported jobs by the Hall family. I remember growing up kids in first grade and second grade at school used to make fun of my last name. They teased me telling me I belonged in the hall instead of in class because I used to get in trouble quite frequently.
